Military Bearing... You're doing it wrong

You guys are a lot more tolerant than the SB crowd on this issue.

Best of luck to this guy - see you in the fleet.

This brings to mind my feelings on the matter of ship selection - it should be like a draft. Ships choose based on reverse Battle E points.
Eeeeeenteresting. Ships that suck at writing their own award packages would get their pick of the litter: the most moto mids with the highest GPAs.

Yeah, so just like pro sports drafts, it would even things out. Otherwise you have year after year of low-GPA students going to the rust buckets. Think that makes anything better?

I've heard some senior SWOs say that there's a qualitative difference between Norfolk JOs and JOs elsewhere, for this reason.

Personally, I don't think there's a correlation between college GPA and your ability to lead Sailors and drive and fight a warship.

I'd buy that for a dollar. What criteria would you use to draft MIDN, if you had the ability?

If we did it that way, I'd place a lot of value on a ranking board by the SWO LTs at USNA. That, or some type of drinking contest...

The good thing about the way we do it is the Mid has some level of buy-in when for your ship when he pulls it off the board. Maybe they really want to go to that homeport, maybe they're really interested in that platform, or whatever. If we drafted, the Mid wouldn't get that buy-in and might not be as moto to come join your team. You're a VFA guy, presumably you picked that because it interested you; how would you have felt if you'd been drafted by another community?

^Fair enough, put your pitchfork away.

While I'll never understand your extreme sensitivity for that subject, and that's an understatement, I've edited my post in the interest of keeping the peace.

?? There was a smiley there, dude. All's cool, at least I thought. That was just a joke about the 6,969 times we've gone round and round about people getting their second or third choice of platforms in the over 10 years this site's been around.

Not spooled up about nothin' over here.

Sarcasm meter re-cal'd. I re-read my last post, the "your" wasn't directed at you personally; I've encountered a lot of sensitivity on that topic here from many contributors.

Check. Like I said, some of that may be the long-timers seeing a perennial topic come up again. And again. And again. And a lot of those people may have gotten their second or lower choice, bloomed where they were planted, and ended up liking life. Then along comes Johnny or Jenny High-School Airshow Nerd saying "I'll never settle for not getting fighters," and you might see how people might spool.

Edit: not comparing you to a high schooler!

Over to the crowd for continued discussion.

Is part of the spool about this video because he is uniform? If he was in civvies, would anyone care? Does being in uniform necessitate acting in a more professional manner?

It's like the guys I see at the Wild Orchid during Tailhook in their flight suit. I don't give a shit about being at a strip club, just don't be in uniform.
