Does anyone know of any sources besides the arco book and the ASTB prep test to study for the mechanical comprehension part of the test. Also, does anyone know what hand out they are talking about in Question 17 in mech. comp. part of ASTB prep test. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jim

Jim,
Scroll down on this page to "looking for USMC ASTB prep test" and you will be able to get that study guide. With that practice test and the ARCO book you should be great as far as study guides are concerned. Best of luck to you!

j - I think that #17 refers to a handout that would be from the Marine OSO, but I've never seen anyone have one. In any case, another book to get is "Mechanical Aptitude and Spatial Relations Tests" by ARCO. Hope that helps a little.

rollin1 is right on. Take a freshmen level physics course in mechanics. Also, a statics course and a dynamics course will help as well. These are all basic courses for a Mechanical Engineering degree. That is what I majored in, and consequently the ASTB was the easiest test I took in 4 years of college. If you want the easy route, a high school physics course should adequately prepare you for the ASTB mechanical aptitude section - it's really pretty basic stuff.

I majored in physics, and I found the mechanical section of the ASTB much, much simpler than any of my freshman level courses. I think that reading through a basic physics/mechanics text from the library would be sufficient.

can someone give me the gouge for the monkey and pendulum question found in form 1. I remember it to be something like if the monkey climbs a rope etc. and the pendulum being like how many swings etc.
