March 2013 CEC Board

Price13

CEC Collegiate
Also, Price, I did not realize you could get in with that much schooling left! That's a pretty sweet deal, and I wish you the best of luck for your next two years of college!

Thank you! And I was right on the line...I believe two years of school may be maximum allowed to get accepted into the program.
I have not been logging in lately, which is the reason for this ridiculously delayed response.
I hope that you have since heard some good news!

Congratulations to all those who got selected and good luck to all those who are still trying. I just got the good news last Friday that I was 1 of 3 professionally recommended for 2015. I think I've been very fortunate to have a very determined OR that worked his butt off to make sure my package made it up to the October board. I've been told that all I'm waiting on is for the final select letter to come, but from what I've read it can take any where from 1 month to 5 months, does anybody know what determines how long it may take? Also, can anybody give me a run down of what happens for a collegiate from here? I'm guessing Price13 would have the best answer to this. Thank you for any information you are willing to share.

congrats! you are very lucky. I got thumbs down by the same board last week... same age as you, GSE2 with secret clearance; CEC first choice, 4 yrs active duty, BS and master's in Elect/Comp engr 3.37 cumulative GPA, 52 OAR. Evals and PFAs are good, have both air and surface warfare pins... Not sure what else to do to earn a spot. my EAOS is in Jan. of 2015... will give it another shot before EAOS. wish me luck!

castrozee, I'm surprised you weren't picked up. All of that sounds pretty impressive. Do you have your EIT or PE? If not, that could definitely help, from what I understand participation in extracurricular activities is looked at as a big positive, especially if it shows leadership. I coach a couple of different teams in various sports for my kids and the accessions officer keyed in on that and had questions about how I deal or approach common problems with those situations, like parents that feel their kids aren't played enough. I think if you keep trying you'll eventually get a spot. Good luck.

Good point, not sure what the view is of the current CEC board members but for the group I dealt with in the later half of my tour the thought was if you could have taken the EIT you should have it, so no EIT = no selection.

graduated in August 2013... registered to take the EIT exam on October 26th... application due date was 18th of September 2013... CEC program authorization for AD unlike the reserve's does not include EIT so I submitted application without it... I personally know CEC officers o1 - o4 who are studying to take the EIT exam next year and ocs applicants with PE licenses that didn't get selected...

I do not have EIT/PE... did you have either when you applied? if so that's pretty impressive for someone with a year before graduation... I was sent out on an emergency to fill in a spot overseas 3 weeks before the exam in October, I'm back now (since Nov. 7th) looking to take the upcoming exam next year...

Those that came through OCS via CEC collegiate would not have the EIT held against them, but the words directly from one of the CEC board members (it is generally the same group of board members) was if they could have taken the EIT they need it, the board member I was speaking with actually said "no EIT means no selection"

No, I do not have my EIT/PE. It was something specifically asked about in my interview and I already had a plan and dates for getting my EIT before getting to OCS. I believe since I was aware of the requirement and had already planned on getting my EIT before I was asked that made a difference. The only reason I mentioned the PE is because you said you already have your degree, but I do agree, having that before I graduate would've been pretty impressive and a little on the unbelievable side.

It just occurred to me, I don't think we were up for the same thing. You already have your degree, so you were probably up for DCO. I put in a package for collegiate, since I still have to finish my degree. I'm not sure how true it is, but from what I've read it is very hard to get DCO, most the people going up for that have several years experience in the industry along with their PE. I believe PenguinGal is in that group. She might be a good recourse for information.

The DCO program is ONLY for the reserve forces. AD CEC are either the collegiate or OCS programs mentioned in many posts already here. If Castrozee is going for an AD slot, which it appears to be the case based on post #38 comment "CEC program authorization for AD unlike the reserve's does not include EIT so I submitted application without it...", then I can only imagine NavyOffRec is likely spot on. (As usual)

I am a DCO and can offer any help and advice I can for people going in that direction! Trust me when I say it is NOT the part time job it is made out to be, lol!

roger that...

Just to let you know, I got accepted to the CEC for AD, and not through the collegiate program, and I do not have my EIT or PE. I don't think it's worth comparing resumes, as what my board (earlier this spring) was looking for wasn't necessarily what your board was. I think it would definitely help to have your EIT, but baring that, having a higher OAR score may help, too. During my interview with the CEC Accessions Officer, the FE came up, and it definitely didn't seem to help when I told him I did not have it.

Good luck with resubmitting your package! I am going to the Dec. 8th OCS class, so I unfortunately won't be around if you have questions. I just wanted to let you know that earlier this year it was possible to get accepted without your EIT/PE.
