MAJOR IRR Policy Change...

By my own choice, I’m in VTU, so I drill for “free” at my local NOSC to get retirement points. Have the option of funeral honors or AT, if a paid option or additional points are needed.

Anyone know if drilling VTU gets 15 membership points? I’ve had a surprisingly hard time getting a clear answer.

Yes. Whether you are SelRes, IRR-VTU or IRR, you get 15 membership points per year. You should see this on your point capture form.

Randy beat me to it. My three minutes of google couldn’t get me a full/current bupersinst 1001.39, but if you have a chance you should get a copy.

I’m curious if any IRR-ASP guys are able to make it, as I thought the navy kicked you to standby reserves after a year.

Also, BGOs were grandfathered in to earn points before the change, but I suspect you’d have to be VTU to take advantage anyway.

I think, like most reserve processes, there is most likely only one individual responsible for tracking and pushing enforcement - and is also most likely responsible for other areas also. Making policy changes is one thing, but having enough worker bees to execute it is another.

Any idea when those points show up? My current ASHOSH doesn't yet show them for this anniversary year that ends in June. (I think ASHOSH is the right term, don't have my CAC reader at work to check.)

15 points makes a huge difference for me, particularly with a work schedule that includes trips and detachments.

They cycle based on your anniversary year but it generally takes a couple of months for the system to update and ASHOSH to show the 15 point capture.

I’m retired, I’d recommend asking Flash or some of the other reservists who are more up to date on any changes.
