Yes, route 50 each way. Good quality of life when not at work and the morning commute isn't too bad, but absolutely god awful commute in the afternoon :-(

Just trying to keep it real for the OP. Fairfax City, Burke, Manassas, and Vienna, are all great areas, and you get more house for your money than DC or on the Metro in NoVA, but they are a hell of a commute to the Pentagon and DC.

Part of the reason I suggested the area around Reston Town Center, which is much closer to the Metro than the rest nowadays. Even with its issues the Metro is still generally a good deal, especially for folks at the Pentagon.

Why has no one said Mount Vernon/Huntington/Hybla Valley yet? I live near there and it's great. Right across the bridge from Maryland if needed, close to Huntington metro, close to old town/Alexandria. Part of Alexandria city for their benefits and Fairfax Country for those benefits too.

Also you can get an okay amount of house or townhouse so long as you don't live near the country club.

I'm just trying to fit in on the sta-21 board. Gotta make myself look at least a little competitive among all those other behemoth packages.

Plus, I'm a PS; all we do it make fluff.

Nope, I've tried to negotiate. Garage is a must. What about two-story townhouse/rowhouse with a garage in Old Town Alexandria?
I live in Old Town Alexandria...and I love it...but you are unlikely to find what you need there in terms of toy storage. If you do come to Old Town look to the newer developments along the river, they tend to have bigger garage spaces. If you shift SW a bit you can find a nice place along the George Washington Parkway with a decent garage. Base housing at JB Belvoir is nice and new and has good sized garages. Be aware of the Mount Vernon area, it can be quite nice...if you pick the right area. In any case, OT Alexandria is the best place I have lived including time in DC.
