Looking for a female perspective on OCS

There's an old joke that always makes its rounds along the lines of: "What do you call the guy who placed last in his med school class?" There's two answers. 1) "Doctor." 2) "a flight surgeon."

2) means he's still in the Navy.

So what happens if someone during OCS has "hair issues" and gets "flak" (or as I like to call it, "crap") about haircloudfrizzness? You'd probably call them "Ensign." Just something to keep in mind.

Haha yeah but I still don't wanna do anything that's gonna bring any extra negative attention to me while I'm there.

I have a hair question. I'm practicing putting my hair up in a bun that's within regulation but my problem is that I have curly hair and when I work out it usually gets very frizzy (as in there is often an inch high "cloud" of frizz around my head). Am I going to have to slather it in some sort of gel or other product or is the frizz acceptable during PT?
Just graduated OCS in May. A good mix of gel/non aerosol hairspray is a must. During indoc before we had watches I always slept in my bun and slicked down my hair with hairspray in the morning before pt. After pt, I would slick it down again. During pt, it's not that big of a deal. Just make sure to get it back down when you get a hygiene break.

I understand we can have our hair braided into one braid as long as it meets the other regulations about the tail being tucked under and what not. But I was wondering if having your hair braided during OCS is feasible? I usually braid mine over night while its wet and it dries pretty well. With some gel or something in the morning I could make it presentable. I was just wondering if any other ladies did this or if the bun was just the way to go for time considerations.

It is whatever you want to do. If it holds well over night, go for it. No one will say anything as long as it's in regs.

Is there a female who recently was in OCS who could share what they brought to OCS (hygiene products, specifically)? And maybe what you recommend bringing?

Things I brought:
2 in 1 shampoo
Body wash ( I started with Dove, and switched to Old Spice when I ran out)
Face wash
Moisturizer
Deodorant (started with Degree, switched to Old Spice Antiperspirant)
Towel/washcloth
Brush /hair ties (large and small)/barrettes
Hair gel

Things I wish I had brought:
Turbine Twist (I have long hair)
Loofa
Separate shampoo and conditioner
Non-aerosol hairspray
Astringent (somehow forgot this)
Lotion
Chap stick

If you do forget something or realize you need something, once you are allowed NEX privileges you can buy it there

Anyone have perspective on menstrual cramping? Are you allowed to have midol? I usually have some cramping and nausea on my first day, and midol helps a ton.

You won't be able to bring anything like that. If you have to have it, you could go to sick call. You can get in a ton of trouble if you get caught with meds that weren't given to you there or weren't a prescription.

Thanks. Definitely don't want to get in trouble. I'll just suck it up!

This. Not to barge in on your thread, but we had a female get rolled... I think two classes and get stripped, stripped of her billet, demerited into the ground, and chewed out badly specifically because they caught her with NEX bought midal. Hit her both because it contains caffeine and is outside meds.

Stripped of what billet? Her OCS rank/billet or of her actual Navy slot?
