Lifestyle MV-22 Osprey Pilot?

Hello gentlemen, Id like to start off by first apologizing again to all I disrespected on this great forum and specifically this thread. 'Phrogpilot73'is right, I haven’t even proven I can go through a summer OCS yet compared to so many of you on here whove accomplished much more than me. I must also say I didn’t know ‘Phrogpilot73’ was an officer. Most of the men I come into contact with on this site are either in the USMC applicant phase, enlisted personnel with aviation knowledge,or candidates. I also know there are quite of few on this site who are just relatives of naval aviators. The only person that crossed my mind as an officer was phrogdriver, since he was the only one who came and stated his position as an Osprey pilot. Many people may have a type of aircraft in their username because of various reasons, not because they actually fly that jet or achieved the honorable naval aviator status. Since no one else stated their experience or position or answered my question, I assumed most the other guys who commented on this thread were my peers, rank, or closer to my age. Its my negligence for not checking profiles and paying more attention to detail. Either way I responded in an embarrassing way, therefore I should take whatever consequences come my way for my actions whether in OCS or divine karma. I think that’s fair and I believe in that philosophy. I have a problem with patience which I allow to get the best of me sometimes. I also have a tendency to get carried away with my jokes. And my delivery can come across strong and not the intended way. They did a study and a man made a statement over email (internet), his superior didn’t take to well to it and called him rude basically. The same man made statement over phone, and the superior thought it was good joke and was pleased etc. (This is paraphrased, which I could find the actual study) But the point is over the internet we all have to be careful with each other, because its hard to measure another person’s tone sitting across the computer. Although I have legitimate frustrations and sent messages to other members questioning giving me a bad reputation, it was never a point where I was totally serious or was trying to put anyone down, especially if I knew I was talking to other officers , lol. Who in there right mind would do that?? I mean I knew we were all heated in the moment trying to make our points, but I never saw it as that serious honestly. Im was talking on this thread like I was talking to my peers. I use different vernacular when Im around my buddies or people around my age, than I adult an adult or superior. So when I saw I was banned, I was very shocked because to me its just like conversating with the guys in joking way, when we all get on each other , go hard on each other, and make fun of each other. No one is sensitive because we realize theres a mutual understanding. When we carry on like that we really mean no harm to each other, its really a form of male bonding. No Im not a troll, once again. My name is Jamel L. Jackson and I live in Birmingham, Alabama. My picture is in my profile. Like i said before, I have no reason to hide anything, Im a pretty open person even though Im busy I always try to make time for others and to make everyone feel important. I don’t have time however to be a troll lol. Theres not enough time in the day. I work fulltime, go to school fulltime, taking helicopter lessons, taking airplane lessons, volunteer/humanitarian work in community, doing stuff with the Marines almost every week and my local pool events, and finding time to workout 5x or more a week. I also have the advantage of living in Alabama which is home of Huntsville only hour a way from me, so Ill be starting internship parttime with NASA soon as well. Between all of this and politicians wanting to meet for lunch every other week it seems, I really don’t have time to be a troll, lol I really don’t. I could have chosen to be in any profession in the world, that would earn me more money or be lot more ‘safer’ and less ‘risky’ but I chose to be a Marine and fight along side you men and defend our Country. I could have chose any other branch in the military, with bribes of bonus money just for initial signing of $12,000, but I turned them down to be a Marine, because I believe it to be the most honorable thing one can achieve. Everything Ive done to this point Ive earned, sweated, and bled for and no one has given anything. And from what my father instilled in me, no matter what, don’t ever expect anyone to. Im under the impression many of you guys think Im cutting corners or being lazy by not searching old posts. Its not that at all, its just I know things change all the time and I was looking for the most accurate information so I can compare options and have a realistic idea of what to expect when I get out into the field. When I become an officer there will be an old chap wanting to know same type questions 10years from now, and Im pretty sure the game would have changed even more then. Now that I see you guys are totally serious, I just want to end this right now. I don’t believe in arguing, putting down someone else (outside of joking), or being disrespectful, that’s below me and I believe its below you guys as well. Im under the impression the Marines is supposed to be like a fraternity better yet a brotherhood. Although we may have novices in here now or below your rank, you never know when you need them down the road or they will be in the position to save your life. I think you guys have the wrong opinion on me and what kind of person I am, and that my fault. We all have similar values, its why we chose to become Marines. So many times we focus on the negatives and not the positives, this site as helped me more than any one single entity out there. And my satisfaction outweighs my frustrations. But this thread has gotten off subject and I was just like to get back to the original topic. I appreciate you guys for allowing me to be a member of this site and all the good information thus far. Keep up the good work. From a military standpoint thanks for your service.

Right after I read through this thread, I debated if I had been too generous in the length of the ban. You have proved to me that my first instict was correct, very honorable post. Some of us half expected for you to come back and tell us how it's all our fault, etc... (there have been a number of trolls as of late). Way to man up!

Second, your post was a bit difficult to read - try breaking your posts up into short paragraphs. It makes it easier to read and comprehend. Also, try to avoid the SMS-speak it drives some of us batshit crazy. Use smilies to get your point across (or, don't use smilies and possibly suffer the wrath - or simulate smilies - RIP Skid). Focus on not necessarily writing a collegiate paper - but close.

Also, it's up to you - but I would keep real names, facebook links (etc) to the PM section of the website. I can remove it for you if you like - it just begs for exploitation.

We're happy to answer your questions, but when there's already threads that have covered this ad-naseum and maybe 2 posts out of 200 have changed slightly - you can see why we get a bit tired of the same questions. Over, and over, and over...

Finally - this thread is a good read for a newbie, it gives some insight as to what we expect (and why we expect it).

All of the communities & services have issues (well, not the legacy Hornet community- we’re as close to perfection as one can get but I digress) but you don’t go talking about them.
So what you're saying is that being what is essentially a NAVY pilot (that is what legacy Hornets do, right? Deploy on carriers? Protect the CVBG?) is close to perfection?? What a homo. Although I guess that's not much of a big deal, since 95% of the Hornet community is now going to be coming out of the closet... :D

Accepted here.

JJ, others may not agree, but I think you are finally starting to see the light. I think you need to learn a little modesty. There are many members here who have "been there, done that".... commission, wings, aerial combat, day/night/all-weather carrier ops, etc. and frankly, have more humility than you.

You have to remember, IF you make it into the program you want, entirely possible that a member/s here could end up someday as your Flight Instructor, Department Head, or CO!

Just a couple of points from your re your post:

1. "I assumed" - never assume, always ensure. (ass-u-&-me).

2. In some places, your still talking "teacher to students", we could do withot that.

3. There is a very fine line between Self Confidence and Arrogance. You crossed that line early in the thread. You were advised, cautioned, then warned several times, but you persisted.:icon_smil

For me, I'm willing to give it another shot ('cause I'm a Santa Claus), but I can't speak for other members.:bulb_125:

Good luck!

Even in your apology, it's pretty easy to glean your strong sense of self.. not neccessarily a bad thing, but just remember, hubris will be the undoing of man my friend..

Don’t hate, my friend. My time out here surrounded by chopper guys has proven one thing to me, that helicopters is synonymous with gay. Besides, we all know that Osprey pilots are the confused ones (“I try to fly like a fixed-wing guy, but deep down I know I’m really a helicopter guy”) so I’m sure they will be the ones leading the “coming out” charge.

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!!! I live in AL and cannot stand the constant talk of 13 national championships (5-7 of which aren't even real :p), the golden days of The Bear, or how amazing Nick Saban is among other things. . .

Nice comeback! Just could have broken it up into paragraphs as previously mentioned. So, politicians are scheduling lunches with you? That's great man, what do you do exactly to get an internship with NASA? I'm a recent ME grad and would love an internship like that if I weren't commissioning in a few weeks. You should be very proud, it sounds like you are on a path to success.

I do have to ask, though. Just because you believed you were talking to people your age or at your step in the process, why didn't you seem to give any respect? I understand you felt like you were just bustin' balls, but it was pretty rude despite that. Either way, I think you made the right move with the apology. Also, make sure you use smilies if you are being sarcastic (ask me how I know).

Haha good questions! Its from making connections all the way back in high school when I was standout athlete. Plus I have relatives who work for Birmingham News, lawyers, pastors, and work for politicians etc. The NASA thing is just volunteer shadowing not anything major official, either way that opportunity still comes from years of making connections. The word volunteer is probably what I shouldve used instead of intern, but it all comes from networking man. Its also the luck of happening to live very close to a NASA/Space Engineering city. Also since I was in high school/early college I did community service and today I go to alot of Young Republican meetings (church as well) in my local area. So Im meeting with even more business people and politicians etc. This all came in handy when I needed references for my application lol. I was able to get an O-6 Army Colonel whos about to achieve rank as Brigadier General as a good reference.

Yes I believe in giving all people respect. Its not that I wanted to not give people my age any respect. Its just that I feel more comfortable and relaxed around my peers my age. Whereas in the South youre raised to say 'yes sir' 'no miam' etc. to anybody older than you. You have to admit, in your early 20s, whats disrespectful to your grandparents is not so with your bestfriend who you kick it with lol. I guess its just a cultural thing. And I do use 'smilies' alot, I mostly 'lol' instead. If you look back at my post you can see I was 'LOL'.

But all in all I have to stay busy man for alot of reasons. Main reasons it keeps me outta trouble with the girls lol. But for the most part I stay focused and alot more productive in a typical day. Believe it or not the busier I am, the more organized I am.

LOL! What part of Alabama you live? If you take away Alabamas championships from that period you have to take away championships from all the other colleges back then who were determined the same way ;). I mean over the years 3 additional championships were rewarded to Alabama at the end of the season by at least one source that the University doesnt even recognize.
Gotta admit St. Nick is the best in the country and thats why hes the highest paid. You see we have another #1 ranked recruiting class and the #1 ranked OL Cyrus just signed. Hope we get the #1 overall national recruit DE from South Carolina, Clowney, to sign with us as well. Hes supposed to announce next Monday.

This might be a safe assumption if you are in a thread about OCS (Navy or MC), but from my experience everywhere else the common posters are definitely not your average applicant.

And please, stop using "lol" like you use salt on fries. Every time I read it, I throw up a little.
