FLY NAVY...Divers need the work
pilot
Ok, the answer for LASIK is ABSOLUTELY NO. My brother got it when it first came out and it was not on the Navy's list of do not have's yet. So he went to OCS as SNA, and they found it, asked what the hell is this and booted him. That was 8 years ago. He spent everyday of his life since then trying to get a waiver. He wrote letters, made calls, wrote up reports for the board, he did more research than the doctors making the decision. He is on a first name basis with all of the powers that be in this area, and I believe he knows more about the Navy's policy on this than any other applicant. All that being said, the answer is and always will be no for Naval aviation. However, if you want to fly, my brother is now an Apache pilot for the Army and is loving it. Not the Navy, but he is flying. I believe there is a program to go from blue to green as a WO. I would look into that if you want to fly. Talk to your career counselor, he SHOULD know something about it. Hope this helps. PM me and I can get you in contact with my brother if you like.

Sounds like Army aviation may be the only way for you to go. Switching services is not a problem. My former roommate was prior Navy. After he got out and went to college, he went to Coast Guard OCS, and will be flying H-65s soon. There may be ways for you to make the switch directly, without waiting for your enlistment to be up depending on your rate. Talk to a recruiter.

BTW, Coast Guard also does not waiver LASIK, so that's not an option.

Also, things may change in a decade. It took the Navy a long time to accept PRK and they may accept LASIK in the future. So you can wait it out, or, my recommendation if you really want to fly, go Army, don't get shot-down over some desert, then lateral over to the Coast Guard when we get around to waiving LASIK for helo pilots in 20 years.
