Information dominance warfare pin approved

I'd refuse to wear it. Not only does it clutter the uniform and reinforce the half-assed notion that you need a piece of metal to show how qualified you are, but at a more practical level Intel/IW/IP have no business wearing a pin that broadcasts what they do to the world. Any idiot with a iPhone/Blackberry can take a picture of that device and look it up on the net. Might as well walk around with a huge sign that says, "I have access to national secrets."

Since each of these designators is a relatively small cadre, as compared to say 13XX, this allows the Navy to spread the Intel experise around the fleet in a more efficient manner since you'll have 1 community in charge of all the Intel/Info related fields. I know the Detailers send people there, but someone needs to dictate to NPC who get what and which commands are the priority for this community.

I think this is the most relevant argument yet. I would argue that in Aviation, Subs and surface that 75% of the skills overlap regardless of platform.

As a guy that works in the national level of this business every day the skills that this community is supposed to align has overlaps are very very sketchy even in the agency that oversees it all.

I have been thinking the same myself, I am not sure that the current structure will survive long after the current leadership leaves.

So should we do away with (or "refuse to wear" - yeah right, I'd pay to see you try that) any and all devices that have associated "access to national secrets?" What about certain squadron patches? Billets?

Those doing the targeting already know who is truly in the know. I will leave it at that. An ugly pin will only confirm that someone did the PQS and got their piece of candy. The damn thing doesn't list your clearance level.

I'd refuse to wear it.

First do what needs to be done to earn the right to wear it and the designator that comes with it. Then worry about all that other stuff, like being out of uniform and stuff, but hey, just refuse it.

Agree. Has been my concern from begining. Hard to put the freaking genie back in the bottole. We'll see, the train has left the station

Line officers, you know, the guys in the Navy who conduct combat operations, will just have to up the ante. I say we get an additional device... how about... the tip of a spear. People will see that and think: oh... a real 'warfare' officer.

Kid: "what's that?"
Naval Officer:"That's my warfare pin."
Kid:"How'd you get that?"
Naval Officer:"Well you see there was this combat mission.."
Kid:"WOW! You were in combat?"
Naval Officer: "No... other guys were, but I briefed them on the weather."
Kid: "Oh"

Rescue Swimmer insignia

I waited 21 years for the Navy to approve a device for rescue swimmers to no avail. This Information Dominance pin is like a slap in the face.

Agree!! Rescue swimmers should have gotten something like this long ago; perhaps as a slightly different set of AC wings.

Are the Aviation Warfare and Navy Aircrew insignia not enough to identify you in this regard?

Not all Aircrewmen are Rescue Swimmer. P-3 crewmen are not required to be rescue swimmers and there are some "Dry Aircrewmen" in the HS/HSC world. Don't forget about the Surface Rescue Swimmers that are not from the AW rating, therefore do not have Aircrew Wings. The push from the Rescue Swimmers previously was to have a means to show that the designation of Rescue Swimmer is separate from designation as Naval Aircrewmen and include Surface Rescue Swimmers as well.

To add to the dogpile....Rescue Swimmers are a small subset of all the designated Naval Aircrewmen out there. So to assume that all who wear the NAC are also Rescue Swimmers is a gross generalization.
