How to get around MEPS

FormerRecruitingGuru

Making Recruiting Great Again
I'm sorry to bump a very old thread, but a question about going this route: what should you leave with to give your recruiter and skip MEPS? The signed DD-2808? Something else?

I'm a Reserve officer putting together an active duty packet, and I live literally blocks away from a major military treatment facility that does physicals. I asked them last time I was there if I could just request an active duty physical, and they said sure. So, I think that might be the way to go, I just want to know what I should be walking away from the appointment with to avoid having to do it all again.

Yes you can get your physical at an MTF. You'll need to have a DD 2807-1 and the DD-2808 signed off by the Provider. If you need more help, just tell the MTF you're looking to do a Commissioning Physical and they'll hook you up.

I have a couple of questions about this process before presenting this to my recruiter. I apologize if this would be considered bumping a dead post, but I'm at a loss on how to deal with MEPS.

My package is complete sans MEPS; they won't grant me a physical due to missing one piece of paperwork, a document showing physician diagnosis of ADHD. I have documents from the diagnosing psychiatrist showing severity, DSM diagnosis guidelines, and age of diagnosis. I have documents from my general care physician regarding the date I began medication, and the day of my last refill, as well as a check up stating my function off medication. I have full pharmaceutical records showing all prescriptions and refills, as well as exact dates in regard to when they were filled. The only document I can think of that MEPS wants is the questionnaire filled out by my parents, teacher at the time, and the diagnosing physician. However, no one has these documents. The only reason I have the paperwork I have is because my parents requested and saved copies of anything medical as it occurred. I know that one must be off ADHD medication for 2 years prior to signing up, and I have been off of ADHD medication for almost 6 years, so I know that's not the problem.

So my biggest question would be is this process of going around MEPS still canon?

Is this process something I "qualify" for?

Would my recruiter understand what I'm talking about?

Being that this is a Navy process, would I need to go to a Naval medical center, or can I go to an Army hospital?

Being that I'm a dependent, with a valid military ID, would I still need my recruiter to accompany me through the process?

Is this something where I would go through my current primary care physician(Army) for?

From my understanding, this gets you into MEPS, instead of taking place of the MEPS physical?

Thank you so much for your help. Lurking Airwarriors has helped me through the OCS application process more than I can express, and has been a huge motivator.

Bumping this for a tangential question. My last full MEPS physical was 7/31/13 and my OCS class date is 7/26/15

My processor is saying I need to re-phys but is that necessary since I'm still within the 2-year time frame (albeit not by much)?

I also had to re-phys, but my case was a little more clear-cut (expired in April, OCS in July). That said, in my research about this I believe I came across something stating that the physical needed to be good through the end of OCS, not just the report date. Wish I could cite a specific source for you, but that would be my guess.

If you gotta do it, jump on that ASAP. My recruiting office only caught the issues with my out of date PQ 3 weeks before my class date on July 5 and it took pretty much that whole window to get it done (July 2 @ noon). Thought I was gonna miss my class date but it all worked out in the end!

Edit: clumsy fingers

Thanks for the info - I believe I read that somewhere recently as well. I filled out my pre-screen on Monday so hopefully I'll hear back soon on a date. My OCS date is 7/26.

If I recall that is correct, the physical must be good through the end of OCS
