This applies to the process of becoming a rated pilot, not to Part 135, which only requires that the landing be at a place other than the point of origination. There's no minimum distance. FC2spyguy has a good question as to if it specifies an actual airfield. I'm going to have to look that up.

The reason there's a difference is that Part 135 has a specific requirement to have x number of CCX hours (as defined under 135) depending on what particular portion of 135 you're flying under (VFR vs IFR).
Sorry, I misread your post entirely!

Sounds like East County is good to go. I think the argument of taking off and landing on the same ship that's in MODLOC is also legit, at least technically.

Thanks, Rockriver...hadn't made it to Part 61 tonight yet to look it up .

So this thread's been dead for about a year but I really appreciate all the insight and responses. Looking back, I could have phrased the question a lot better - that's my mistake.

Still not sure if this'll be a career for me or not, but I definitely know I want to stay flying. All the different opportunities (LE, USFS, Cal Fire, Customs, Regionals to Legacy, USNS, prison vaseline, etc) listed here are incredibly helpful and motivating for a guy that's not sure what'll happen in the nearish future.

Wound up getting 60 Romeo's. And I love them
