Hi,

I understand that this topic has been covered previously. However, most of those forums have been locked. Can someone please tell me what is generally the height maximum for which a pilot can fit comfortably in a fighter?

I am currently reading Endurance by former astronaut and naval aviator, Scott Kelly. He was as former F-14 pilot who spent a year on the International Space Station (ISS). He does not mention his height in the book and I was not able to find it online. However, in the book he mentions that he could barely fit in the Soyuz craft that would take him to the ISS. I did notice a picture online where he is standing next to 6'1" President Obama and looks quite short in comparison.

Are jet fighter aviation and astronautics forums that are best suited for those under 6 feet?

Thanks.

This has been covered in other threads, but the USN height requirement for pilot is 62.0"-77.0". Nothing above or below. But really what it boils down to is your anthropomorphic measurements and nude weight. Check out these three documents for details. Aviation Physical Standards. OPNAVINST 3710.37A (ANTHROPOMETRIC ACCOMMODATION IN NAVAL AIRCRAFT). NAVAIRINST 3710.9D (ANTHROPOMETRIC ACCOMMODATION IN NAVAL AVIATION)

I was actually thinking more in the lines for taller pilots. An officer recruiter mentioned that 6'5" is the max for helo pilots. Can a 6'3" or 6'4" man fit comfortably in a fighter?

Like they said earlier...it's not about height, it's torso length. 39" sitting height for the T-45. Some 6'4" guys have a shorter torso than some 6'1" guys.

Typically nothing is comfortable about sitting in a jet.

One of my friends is 6'5" and is actually not anthro'd out of jets, but I know several people smaller than that who are.

I just had my anthro measurements done in Pensacola in A-pool. Im 6'6" and I'm good to go for pilot. I was DQ'd from jets due to BKL by 0.1". I'm getting a remeasure because I just feel that is so minuscule its worth the remeasure. The LT that measured me told me there is no standing height limit now for pilot cause he could tell I was slouching. I measured in at 6'6".

Congrats on getting selected for flight school. So, I assume you are going helos?

You mean he is 6'5" and flys jets? I didn't think that was possible, but I guess I now know that it is.

I know guys that tall flying jets, but don’t forget there is an entire list of anhro requirements, not just height.

Yeah it's more about proportions, and he wasn't out of limits for anything so he's eligible to select any pipeline. It all just depends though, and you won't really know for sure until you get to NAS Pensacola and they put a sheet of paper in your medical record stating which pipelines you're ineligible for based off the anthro measurements.
