GPA questions

Is the USN looking at anything beyond GPA? I switched from Poli Sci to Mathematics last semester, and it produced the worst grades I've ever gotten. GPA will be up by the time I put my package in to a board though.

I don't know how qualified i am to answer this but from what i understand they look at the whole package. But in reality if you have a good GPA and good ASTB scores you should be fine. Whats your GPA?

Right now 2.41 is my GPA. I can and will pull it up in time for a board - but obviously some unsavory events occurred to land me there.

several designators have moved their GPA up to 2.8

you should get it up to at least a 3.0 but each designator is different, some have a minimum GPA that is low but to have a shot you need to have it much higher, others like SNA put quite a bit of weight on the ASTB

I'm going through this right now and you were right... it is a nightmare. I'm trying to track down all of these old transcripts and figure out what my actual GPA is going to be since it will differ from what my transcripts say.

Has anyone encountered having to provide a college-official GPA breakdown sheet/ "transcript explanation"? Like their grading scale and how the school calculates GPA in addition to transcripts? Neither of my colleges provided this and I had to go hunting online on the "online catalogs" to get it. I thought it was the weirdest request and my recruiter (my 4th) insisted it was needed. I wondered if maybe only certain universities provide this in the transcript automatically so maybe that's why I had to hunt? But both my community college and then the college I got my degree from had no idea what the hell I was talking about when I called to ask. Luckily pages from the online catalog were enough to satisfy the need.

Also ScrtSqrl, I think the powers-that-be take however many colleges you attended and the separate GPAs and divides it by total credits attempted or something to calculate the cumulative GPA. At least, that's what my recruiter told me when I panicked at my first college's GPA weighing in on my stellar second college's GPA. It wasn't brought down too much thankfully.

LadyAsh, I haven't heard of this breakdown sheet. I will ask around to see if any priors who got picked up included it in their packages. Hopefully your recruiter is just being very thorough and the sheet ends up not being a hard requirement. *sidenote* Fingers crossed for the SWO board results. Should be any day now right?

It is a requirement, in most cases it is on the back of the transcript, in the cases where we downloaded an official transcript our processors would then go online and get the grading scales, we maintained a file with every college we encountered with the information in it so we just had to grab it from there.

there are several things that the NRC processors do on the back end for AD that they don't for non AD applicants.

Thank you for clarifying this for us. NRC handling it on the back end for us would explain why I haven’t seen or heard of it before.
