Are you in NOVA or MD? I’m not aware if there’s another OR in my area (Alexandria). Do you have any links for the med processing, I haven’t heard anything about that phase other than I’m going to Walter reed.

I'm in NOVA as well. LT Fondale, I believe, is out of Richmond, but don't quote me on that. As was pointed out earlier, the Community Manager appears to be the "go" or "no-go" element of getting an interview and local panel. I'm glad to hear yours is progressing though, keep up the good work and let us know how it goes. Regarding medical, no word or further information yet. LT Fondale is in training these next couple of days so I'm comms dark on that and any potential interview dates (which I believe are being held monthly for the DC region).

I'm working through LT Fondale actually, he's been quite helpful so far.

Beer can definitely set you back a few pounds. I essentially cut it out a while back when I was active in the Army. Keep at it though and you can certainly lose the weight. Grit and determination go a long way in these matters. I'd recommend a book call The Spectrum, by Dr. Ornish. There's a lot of information on proper nutritional intake and the program is federally recommended, if a bit... hippie. I'm 6'2" and 200lbs, which is more than I like but well within tolerance, and I can kick out a PT test to Army standards so we'll see how all of that goes. Still, I plan on getting a little more lean for this. These forums seem to be littered with medical processing horror stories.

I appreciate the input on selection criteria! My resume went up to the community manager last night, so we'll see what they say. I do not currently have a masters but am in the process at George Washington University, Elliot School of International Affairs (Space Policy Institute)

Best of luck to you WAMI, I'll pass along anything I learn and keep us posted on your progress.
GWU is a great school. I had initials enrolled through there for their Systems Engineering grad program. My employer had a program where GWU professors would come to our building a few time a week and instruct. I ended up turning down the program for a few reasons. A: every sole in my division has a MS Systems Engineering B: my division is already very strong in systems engineering, programatic, acquisitions... C: the next iteration of the MS program didn’t start till next January.

I decided to go with Penn States GIS program at their school of science and mathematics for a few reasons A: I specialize in GIS and would like to eventually move out of CIO-T and in to Source B: the degree included a certificate to teach (this will help be an adjunct professor) C: includes a USGIF certification.

Still debating on transferring to Northeastern - I just found out I was accepted and it’s maybe one of the best schools in America besides MIT (for my area of study).

Regarding recruiters... I believe your recruiter works with mine. Mine just happened to text me last night and said he’s returning from a conference and would review all of my forms sent pertaining to the check list. As for my physical - he said to just let him know when I’m comfortable to take it and he’d then schedule it. At my current rate, I should be within standards by the end of May. Last week I did 7 days on 700 cal, this week I’m 2 days in to a 7 day water fast. I’ve dropped close to 12lbs now in 8 days.

Gods luck on everything and keep in touch!

Thought I'd throw my details up here too, working towards 1835/Intel. Worried (given the talk on here about waivers for the upper end of the spectrum) about my age, etc, working strongly against me; I just don't want to give up the day job given I've managed to find a way up here (average entry-level gig receives about 1000+ applications/day if publically posted). Not working with Lt Fondale, but glad that he is responding to y'all's emails.

Any perspective from folks who have gone through this process or are recruiters would be really appreciated! (@RUFiO181 ?)

oh. I do have a lot of tactical experience in the intel field, but I’m shooting for IP. I’m a requirements engineer today for the IC, performing acquisition responsibilities, cloud services... the money was here when I left the intel field and it’s almost impossible for analysts to promote in the IC due to the quantity of them.

Anyhow. I’m shooting for IP :)

How is everyone's application packages going?

I finally got all the documentation together for my physical and the recruiter sent it all to N3M a few days ago. Hoping that all gets approved.

I'm currently getting my LORs together.

I was selected last FY. The feedback I received when I applied in regards to LoR's, is that it looks better to have LoRs from people who know you well or have worked with you on a somewhat regular basis. I think sometimes people take LoRs as a challenge to see how high ranking of an official they can get to recommend them. A well written and specific LoR that can reference experiences working with you or you working for them directly is likely to go much further, then someone racking up generic character reflection LoRs from officials that don't really know them and can't reference examples. If the LoR happens to meet that criteria and be from a senior official, then even better. That is just my two cents. If it is useful, then I can provide the feedback they gave to applicants last go around on what the selection board was looking for.

Sage advice.

Many attempt to secure LoR's from Senators, Admirals, or other high level figures. The people on the board are not dumb and can read through this.

Now, if you have worked for or with someone who happens to be a Senator or Admiral, and who directly supervised or witnessed your performance, then by all means, let them write a LoR as a LoR in this respect will carry much weight.

Assuming that they're not your only type of LoRs, should there be any LoR's from the higher up types be included in conjunction with some other closer-to-home LoRs?

IMHO, the best LoR's are those from people who have been in a position to rate you based on their observations and interactions with you.

This will be my third and possibly last attempt for commission. Selection is rough and the IP field is. Exceptionally so, I wish you all the best of luck.

If you are competitive for another designator then by all means get commissioned however in the hell you can. Then, when you are commissioned and fully qualified, you can look into change of designator requests. That's how I got to IP: was commissioned as Intel, got qualified, then put in a change of designator requested based on my civvie job/experience. I was fortunate in that at the time, the manning at O3/LT was less than 100% so I got approved.

For O4, IP's are manned at about 80%.. We get all kinds of designator changes to IP at the O4 level and many, if not all, make O5.

@bubblehead did you have to complete the AD 182X training course? Did you incur an additional service commitment as a result?
I was one of the last people waived from the IP Basic Course. From what I was told they were no longer accepting waivers without Flag Officer approval. And, to get in front of the Flag for approval, you had better show that you have significant comms experience. In sum, every IP will attend the new active duty IP course.

I did not realize an additional service commitment.

It's on the MILPERSMAN but change of designator includes a 2-year service obligation.
