FY 17 IDC DCO BOARD

Another question from someone brand new to this process...I haven't found any dates for FY18 DCO IWC board, is it likely the same time (Jan next year)?

Oh, and this is pretty much always the case: "can't find [insert anything] on SharePoint" Poorly implemented SharePoint is like that scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark, where they hide the ark in a warehouse.

The current board schedule only goes out till October of this year. We probably won't know till around Summer - Fall timeframe.

All the names are out. It seems whether the Recruitor has the list or not is different. My recruitor got the list from someone. Seems like an interesting process, but it is a good introduction to the Navy.
It would be nice to see a scrubbed list posted. Maybe like initials of the applicants selected and the program selected for.

My Recruiter is MIA. Emailed, called and texted last week and this week...nadda. Still know nothing but I am planning for the worst.

Where did you get the cissp and security thing from? Cause I have a security + a master's degree in information systems and 10 years of cyber experience within the Intel field and I was a non select. And this was my 3rd try and had all good interviews and leadership... So I think a cissp is priority period no exceptions, if someone had a security+ and got I'm let me know who ? Also I have no military experience besides law enforcement ..... I need answers

What is the unit location that you interviewed at? I'm assuming its in the DC/Baltimore area (has the lowest selection rates due to the numerous individuals involved in Intel/IW already in DC/Baltimore and the supply is significantly higher than demand).

I got picked up my third time with my Security+ but had about 1.5 years of big 4 cyber consulting experience and 3 years of various IT and Cyber from a major defense contractor in addition to volunteering with a cyber warfare group that sponsors government and military research projects.

In addition, my current unit is fairly small and needed some JO's so it was perfect positioning. Another applicant I was interviewing with an individual who had 14 years of prior military service and wasn't picked up.

All I can recommend is keep on applying until they (NRC) tell you you can't apply anymore.

I am down in the Panama City, Tallahassee Area. I know the Tallahassee reserve base is pretty small. Do they select based on your location? Thats what is sounds like coming from your post. And did you have your interview with someone else at the same time? Sorry new guy here applying

There are many factors that go into selection. It's all dependent on where there are openings for new JO's as well as what designator you're applying/selected for. Your recruiter would have more info on that than I would.

During my local board interviews, they usually bring in several people at one time but each interview is individual with the senior leadership of the unit.

Hope that helps.

Yes it does thank you. I am interviewing in GA so I am driving 5 hours for the interview. I have a buddy who is DCO Intel so I am getting pieces of information here and there. Do you have any advice on what do study for interview questions? Thanks again

There is really no set of questions to prepare/study. It's more discussion based, where the unit leadership tries to get a better understanding of you as a person, leadership traits and how you approach issues and problems.
They already know you're technically savvy but being an officer also means being hands off.

Just have examples of where you've had strong leadership, examples of where your leadership failed and what you learned (add how you took those experiences to succeed in another situation).

They'll also ask you why you want to join, what you're looking to get out of the Navy, etc.

Honestly, it's just a casual conversation so there's nothing to really worry about.
