And an absurd number got P-3s instead of the rotary they wanted, apparently.

Is that from TW5 or TW4? Seemed to me like a decent number of folks got rotary vice P3s at TW-4 (compared to how everyone thought it was P3s for everyone at the end of the fy).

I know this happened at TW4 a few weeks back, before the fiscal year.

There also seemed to be some sort of quality spread for P-3s... my buddy who had a 56 NSS and was 3rd in his graduating class of 4 wanted Rotary first choice, but got P-3's which was his 3rd choice; the guy who finished behind him with an NSS in the 30s got Rotary which was his first choice as well. They told him they needed people with higher NSS's to start going P-3's...

Yeah apparently there may or may not have been a P-3 surge at some point. Both 4 and 5 had quite a few P-3 selectors. (Moi included, but I asked for it)

For what its worth Marine dudes....the CO of MATSG sat the new primary guys down (I was on the way out and just needed my out brief so I got to hear it) and explained everything, with a chart and graph on a white board and everything. From what I got fiscal year has some pull based on slots available for the remainder of the fiscal year. Based on my half assed analysis, number 1 Marine got first choice, slot depending, and then the CO's of both MATSG's match up the NSS' look at what the stud wants and what they have and wham, selection. Being my give a shit meter was low I wasn't paying that much attention but fiscal year, Marine wise, makes a difference. I have a few buddies who had jet grades wanted jets and got helo's simply because there were no jet, 130, or v22 slots. The Marines who were in the 4 selections in front of me got helo's NSS be damned.

I know the guy and you know they told him that quality spread crap for a reason. You know why. For the record he is a great guy, but should be happy he's even in the program.

Only heard of two guys so far who didn't get Jet. One had a 50.9 while everyone else had 60s. While in Djets I went to a Red Knights mando Fun and everyone above a 50 so far got jets. Its been a good start of the new fiscal year. Little rumor I heard was Wingsville was down 40 the week before I selected.

Rangers FTW!

Funny stuff...! I wanted to fly P-3, had a pretty good NSS, and end it up with the Helo Draft, but I am extremely happy that such thing happened. Flying Rotary Wing has been far more rewarding than fixed wing. I still love both, but helos are far more fun.

I referenced this thread several times in Primary worrying about the fiscal year being a factor. Well yesterday was the very last selection of the fiscal year and two guys from one squadron alone got jets, and two weeks prior two guys got jets in one squadron. Pretty sure it's just based on if they need the people or not (and grades of course) regardless of what time of the year it is. If you've found yourself here worrying about getting what you want cause it's the end of the fiscal year, realize you only need to worry about doing the absolute best you can in Primary and that's all that really matters. I know that's said all over the place on this site but another reminder won't hurt I suppose.

Thanks, Yeti. I needed to see this. I got med-downed recently in API and it'll be maybe a month or more before I roll back into class. I don't even know what I want to fly yet, but I've been worrying about how my delay affects selection down the road.

Sure thing man. Take advantage of the time and study but also relax a little bit. API and Primary were made to be passed as long as you study. I know it's easy to forget this fact. I had to remind myself sometimes in API and Primary, I'm sure I will in advanced as well. Good luck on the recovery!
