Final Select Purgatory

Misery loves company, and perspective helps minimize misery. And so in the spirit of that, I was hoping to start a thread to see (and I believe there are) if there is anyone else out there going through the purgatory that is waiting for Final Select Papers.

I received word back on OCT 9th that I was Pro Rec'd, took care of all the necessary paperwork, and am still waiting for someone to give me a security clearance and my much needed Final Select papers. Now that there is a stand down until Jan 4th, I don't know when I'll finally make it to OCS.

I'm sure someone else has a longer wait and a more painful story, so please share.

Although I just received my FS, I waiting from Aug. 25th to Dec. 9th to get mine. SF-86 probs and a number of other issues that were slightly out of my control. It sucks man, I know, but keep going. Everyone is in the same boat.

I have an OCS date but just need my selection paper signed, which won't happen until the new year.

It sucks for everyone man. Try to keep your mind off of it. I use the gym, beer, and women and that works for me. :D

July Final Select SNA
Pro-Rec'ed in July Boards Got word about it Aug 25th Just received a Class Date for Jan 24th on Dec 9th. Still Haven't officially swore in.

I even Had MEPS done a year prior. Seems like 75% of people I have read it takes 3-4 months on average except current priors.

The Christmas Holiday stand-down might delay it a little more.

I was in for the July boards. Got Pro recc'ed the end of August. Just got word TODAY that all my SF-86 and MEPS stuff has FINALLY cleared and been approved in the system. Still waiting for my FS letter and OCS date. Hopefully it won't be much longer? Not sure what the lag time is between all the paper work being approved and getting an actual date is though..

I got pro-rec'd NFO at the October boards. My medical and security was already done, and I finished my PFT middle of November. My final select letter came in Dec 6th and now waiting for necessary signatures. I think I am going to be waiting until after the holidays (Merry Christmas from the Navy I guess, I can't really complain though because I am BDCP once I swear in).

I know what you mean, it seems like the logjam is at JPAS right now. And I really can't get any timetable as to how long it takes once the investigation is opened to when it is completed. Whatever it is, its going to have to wait until after the holidays.

If you have idle time, then check out their website and you'll get some insights into their process and occasional delays and more and more of traditional process is automated. Note: JPAS is an information system developed by the Defense Security Service (DSS) to improve the process of managing the clearances for DoD and those who deal with the department. DSS is who has the investigators working your clearance that ends up in JPAS so the "log jam" isn't necessarilty with JPAS itself if they haven't completed your investigation.

Note: the investigators are under the gun to complete investigations/reinvestigations, but if you are just getting your initial investigation, expect delays if you have any red flags or other issues they are trying to resolve. So knowing an average time won't really mean anything in your case.

you would think there wouldnt be all this wait for priors that have a clearance as well as there medical and legal issues readily available (the Navy maintains the records)
