For the record the mishap pilot is a friend of mine and I'm still glad he or anyone else were not seriously hurt/killed.

??? Maybe I misread, but gotta ask: Under what possible circumstance(s) could you not be "still glad"

You'd be amazed what a quality maintenance department can do to jets (any A/C currently in the inventory) that are well past their prime.

Yep, absolutely agree. And all of the Navy's "Force Shaping" measures are making this harder & harder to do. Having the right mix of maintenance rates coupled with the requisite airframe experience is becoming increasingly difficult to manage. I wonder how this will be further exacerbated next year by sequestration and continued manpower reductions.

Sounds like maintenance and aircrew everything right, and nobody got killed, so it's as good an outcome as anyone could hope for. I take this as good news, not a reason to bash the Hornet.

As for the failure(s), I'd still consider the odds of something like that happening in a well maintained jet to be extremely low. It's the NATOPS check from hell that we prepare for, but hope we never get.

Not perhaps the same S.E.V.E.N. I know?

Well if the mishap pilot screwed Mr. Blonde's wife/girlfriend after the crash, I'm sure Mr. Blonde might no longer be "still glad".

Shit....humor in a mishap thread.....guess I'm going to hell now....
Yeah, but if he bought it... who gets his stereo?

Nope. I know that Seven. My screen name here predates meeting him though.

My call sign isn't seven.

God, it was a tension reliever (and funny), when at the conclusion of a major alpha brief... a non-participating squadronmate blurts out "dibs on your AKAI tape deck"! Rememberin'...:p
