This is from Darl "Ace" Jewell, CDR USN - Ret., now about 88. Fighter pilot in 3 wars and LSO extraordinaire. They don't make them like Ace anymore.
-Drones Will Not:
...be late to briefings,
...start fights at happy hour.
...destroy clubs
...attempt to seduce others' dates.
...purchase huge watches,
...insult other Services,
...sing "O'Leary's Balls",
...dance on tables,
...yell "Show us your tits!!!",
...or do all of the other things that we know win wars!
Note: I had the pleasure of meeting Ace Jewell, one Happy Hour at the Moffett 'O' Club in '58. I was a young ENS, winged only 3 months and in my first Squadron VF-94. He was a LCDR at that time, and a colorful act to behold. I believe Ace was an F-8 'Sader driver & CAG LSO at that time. He was the LSO Legend of my era ('50s-'70s}, but I don't think he was the last, I was already retired when John "Bug" Roach came along, and from all I've heard, he was the LSO of legend in the generation following ours ('80s-'90s). I would submit that there may be an LSO of legend in the 'millenial generation'; however, his/her color might be somewhat diminished, as any one item on the list above, is a potential career killer in this era!
