Greetings. I've been lurking for some time. I got the affirmative call today. I was beginning to think the Navy passed, but am thankful to be selected for 1635.

A bit about me:
- prior active Marine & Army reserve
- MEd & BS
- aged 34 years
- 3 years Army civilian
- 3 years defense contracting
- ASTB 6/5/4/50 (I think)
- 3 letters of recommendation from my current work chain of command; Army Col, Maj and Ltc/GS-14
- current secret clearance

More to follow from a computer.

I finally saw the letter today. Very interesting the detail they put into each group. I had no idea they spelled everything out like that, letting people know which category they are in for non-selection.

And even though it was "official" to me when my former CO let me know, it was still nice to see it in writing :)

Anyone knows when the JAN boards meet? Thanks.

Your post doesn't really say what you're asking for, but one can deduce that you're probably asking about Intel. ;-)

The remaining FY10 Intel (1635) DCO board dates (posted earlier in this thread) are:

11 JAN 10
12 APR 10

The interviews were easy to come by but I've heard instances where several people have flown or driven someplace to get the interviews taken care of. So don't rule that out as a possibility and look outside the box.
Do whatever it takes to meet your interviewer face-to-face. Period. No excuses.

What about if you're setting up multiple interviews? Quite a few of mine are going to be face-to-face (more than the 3 req'd), but is it really terrible to have a phone interview in addition to the face-to-face ones?

I'm traveling for all of them. The only one I'm even considering doing by phone is someone at USPACFLT, since arranging a trip to Hawaii would be somewhat prohibitive. But you really need to do interviews face-to-face...I'm still trying to see if I can do the Hawaii interview in person, since I really want to interview with this individual.

Well face-to-face ones are good. No doubt about that. You can convey a lot more face to face than one can do over the phone. They also can measure body position, nervousness, professionalism, etc much better in person.

Having said that, my most powerful recommendation came from a phone interview. I'm Intel and I went through two interviews and a phone interview. All interviews and interviewers conduct interviews differently. The face to face was with a Lt. Commander and a Commander. I would say mine were 'difficult' but managable. Difficult questions were asked but they are measuring more than just the response to the question. A couple of days later, another Commander called me to follow up with a phone interview. I won't say too much about the process because it will ruin the ability of that process to do what it's meant to do.

I will say this though...

So, if you do face to face - nail it. If you do a phone interview, my advice would be the same - nail it. It's up to you to make the most out of your specific situation so do just that....Make it count.

I'm another who is bouncing around the country to set up interviews.

I'm currently wrapping up my packet for the 1635 JAN board and am only missing an RIAC endorsement.

I've been able to secure an interview and review of my packet with an RIAC but was told by my recruiter that his endorsement won't work as he is not the RIPO that his station normally works with.

I would like to work in the NIRR that I'm interviewing with. I already have a professional relationship with the AC from this NIRR want to get his endorsement and be done with my packet.

So am I stuck interviewing ONLY in my recruiter's NIRR?

Quick commissioning question for anyone out there who may know...I am an attorney going for Navy Reserve Intelligence. Upon graduation from DCO school, would I be commissioned as an O-1?

No, you'll be commissioned as an O-1 before you go to DCO school. DCO != OCS. A direct commission relies on a board's vetting process rather than an intense indoctrination like OCS.

RIAC Endorsement Question...

Hi Folks,

From the lack of responses I'm wondering if anyone else needed an RIAC endorsement on their packets. I got tabled back in SEP for lack of one, it was a new requirement that my recruiter was unaware of.

So again my question is will any Area Commander do or does it have to be ONLY the one in the NIRR of my recruiter’s station?

Thank.
