Correspondence Course Review

I submitted a FEMA Emergency Management course yesterday and PERS-93 sent me an email today stating that it was approved. I am a CEC, 5105, in the IRR-ASP and do not have a NEPLO billet. Does that mean that PERS is getting soft and will let some courses based on billet or rank slide? Probably not, but I got that one through to test the water. I think I will try to submit more FEMA courses.

It is unclear to me if PERS-93 is supposed to make the course vs billet/rate check or if PERS-912 does that. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Good point. I'm not sure either. Who knows maybe PERS-912 and PERS-93 don't know either. I submitted four more courses, and I will let you know if they are accepted. Of course PERS-912 has 6 months to enter them. I'm guessing that PERS-912 is smart enough to figure rates and ranks, but maybe nothing beyond that.

The squeeze is on. I called the NPC help line to get a statement of service. In the past they would direct me to PERS-912. Now, PERS-912 is "no longer taking calls," and I had to put in a service request to have PERS-912 either grant the request or call me back at the number I gave. The NPC help said that this was the policy as of 1-29-2018. I'm guessing they were flooded with pissed sailors and shut down the point of contact.

Submitted my first round of courses for the year and received prompt response that they received my email, but were rejecting one course. They are correct in doing so...my mistake for not catching that one prior to taking the course. <doh!>

What course was rejected and why? I submitted more FEMA Emergency Management courses and they went through.

Air Traffic Controller...went Rate Specific...I didn't catch that fact and thought it was open to all aviation. My bust entirely.

That makes sense. I haven't heard back from PERS-912. Not really surprised, but I wonder what is going on. My guess is that they are trying to process everyone out of the IRR-ASP with less than 16 years and it is going to take a while.

Just did 14141...Pre-Calc and Probability. You'll need to get your geek on. Assignment #4 was tough (Integration) but the other 4 assignments weren't bad. 9 points.

Does anyone know how to contact PERS 912 to have a copy of my Statement of Service sent to me? The Navy Personnel Command help line said that they are no longer taking calls, and the IRR counselor said that they are the only ones who can issue a Statement of Service.

Do the standard “u ask npc” or the 901 number from the bupers site and then just ask to get connected to 912. When I did it a few years ago they were very, Very, VERY hung up on you having a reason, but if you say “annual point capture verification” it seems to keep the lions at bay.

Good luck!

Based on your experience and my reading of the new approved FY18 course list, officers are good to go for any NRTC courses categorized as "GENTRA". However, no other NRTC courses are available for 13XX designators - is that the consensus? Anything listed as rate specific now excludes officers. This seems apparent, but I am taking nothing for granted given all the recent changes, and appreciate a sounding board.

Beyond that, I extend my gratitude to anyone reading who has contributed to this site over the years. I have found it to be a very valuable resource, although this is the first time I have commented.

Cheers.

Thanks. I tried that but the u ask NPC said that PERS 912 was not taking calls and u ask NPC filled out a trouble ticket and said that PERS 912 would get back with me. Well, that was about 3 weeks ago and I did not hear from PERS 912. I reached out to the IRR Counselor by email and phone. They were able to verify my point capture for my anniversary year which ended in January. From what they said, I received a qualifying year last year and 15 GRAT points. I am taking that as confirmation I am still in the IRR-ASP, but I would really like to have a hard copy of my Statement of Service. I am going to wait until April or May to try again to get a hard copy of my Statement of Service.

Nice find! Thanks!

ALL PLEASE NOTE: ^That^ file is updated as of June 2017, so make sure you use it and not one of the older versions when you do your annual muster/screening.

(side note: apparently what drove the change was adding a question as to whether the reservist intends to undergo gender reassignment surgery)
Hey Everyone,

New IRR member here, just transferred over from SELRES. Do I understand correctly that I am supposed to wait for PERS to send me the annual screening form? Or should I initiate?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best,

J

You are flying solo in the IRR, and I wouldn't wait or expect much. Be proactive and check the NPC site often, usually around the start of the fiscal year to see what changes are being implemented.
