Chances??

Just go for it, your GPA will be above many that apply, I have had many picked up that had OAR at or just above the minimum, the thing is they had good GPA's, I also saw many with high OAR's not picked and they had average, or below average GPA's, the OAR opens the door, the GPA is what gets you closer to taking a seat on the OCS bus.

Thanks so much for your insight!

Hi Guys,

Any insight you can give my on my chances for the Nov/Dec SWO board would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of disclaimers:
1. This is my first post, so be warned.
2. After reading what seems like every post having anything to do with SWO, I have decided that my OAR score (of 45) in itself has sealed my Pro-Req N fate.

With that being said, I am hoping that my 3.75 GPA (Criminology- Law Enforcement from Cal State Fresno) would be enough to balance out my packet?

I have what I would consider strong LORs (military, law enforcement, professors, and a previous boss).
In college I was an active member in an honors society and a law enforcement academic association (did some volunteering through that).
I'm 21 years old.
Any other stats I forgot to mention, let me know.

Thanks!

What do ya know, another Fresno State Grad! I'm on the long wait as well, I was a History Major, I believe the same OAR (it's been over 5 months so I don't really remember) and a lower GPA, but have heard my package is very strong with all the other stuff, so who knows, it's just a matter of time. The supply board told my recruiter that the only thing they didn't like about my package was the GPA, so hoping for a better result with SWO.

The GPA thing is just speculation by your recruiter, the board does not nor is allowed to give feedback, they just don't have time, they take a just a few minutes per application.

Good luck with everything! I am pretty shocked to run into a CSUF grad on AW. When did you graduate? Are you planning on retaking the OAR? I was under the impression that for Non-Priors the two most influential components of an application packet are the OAR and the GPA. Just out of curiosity, if you have a 45 OAR and a lower GPA what factors are people looking at when they're telling you that you have a strong packet?

Speaking of the upcoming SWO board, does anyone have any kind of update? I've been hearing rumors of 08DEC, but I haven't heard anything else in a few weeks.

9 Dec is the Board Date. Just confirmed it via NRC's N311 sharepoint site accessible by recruiters.

I'd also like to piggyback on @NavyOffRec comment about OAR vs. GPA. Your high GPA could very easily offset your low OAR. It really comes down to how many they want to select at this board vs. how many applied...and we'll never know the inner workings/discussions at the board. If you were my applicant, I would absolutely send you to board and if a non-select, plan on retaking the OAR as soon as possible. It's best never to try and predict what the board will do for SWO. They raised the minimum OAR from 35 to 45 about a year ago which really cut the number of applications and like others, I've had people selected with a 45.

Best of luck!

@Chop07 and @NavyOffRec thanks so much for taking the time to post! I'm feeling slightly less clueless.
