CEC Reserves DCO Selection Board

Making Recruiting Great Again
I thought posted earlier that i had completed a Master's of Engineering Management with a gpa of 3.86. Either way PA says no advances degrees of Eng. MGMT nor industrial engineering.

You can roll the dice with EDO DCO, but they typically prefer those who have MS's/PHDs in straight up engineering.

Yes it would appear to be essentially required. The last board's 2 or 3 non-selects (out of 14 or 15 applicants) were in the process of getting a graduate degree rather than already having it. Of course you probably have access to all the information sir. This is just what my OR and I went over.

Attaching the Reserve EDO PA for reference.

EDIT: Agh, Master of Engineering Management is specifically excluded.

My candidate who got selected this year is currently pursuing a dual PhD/MS program on track to graduate in 2 years.

That's awesome! Congrats to him/her!
You've told me before before my chances are "slim to none" for EDO DCO since I only have about 4 years work experience and I do believe you of course. I've brought it up multiple times with my OR and other Navy folks but they are confident with me for some reason and insist I forge on, and I have. Just need to get my interviews done and the rest of my LORs and I'll be good to go. We'll see what happens come June.

Hail_HYDRA!

One more question...
So next question, If i dont get selected should i get another B.S. that is EAC-ABET accredited vice ETAC-ABET to just negate that whole case by case basis until i am either picked up while doing EAC or complete it? Or just keep trying and hoping since with the ETAC I am at the bottom of the list?
I start my engineering program (BS/MS) next week and will be done in just over two years due to transfer credit. My resume will contine to improve even if Navy doesn't pick me up. If they do, awesome. But I don't want to have ANYTHING hold me back...even if I have to do more schooling.

What are you studying? Are you looking into getting into CEC?

Although my focus is electrical engineering, just was pointing out the long route might have the quickest results.

For CEC, I believe NavyOffRec mentioned he's only seen people with a background in Civil Engineering and Architecture get selected via DCO. It may be a gamble as an EE guy. EDO may be a more natural option.

Are you also looking to apply for IWC again?

This is not entirely true. I'm a mechanical engineer who has served with chemical engineers, civil, electrical, mechanical, etc.

I havent been selected or denied yet but i would imagine similar to other communities such tbat strong interviews, statement and GPAs are 75% of the selection. Next would be LORs abd then other factors. If i do happen to get selected it would mean that its still possible... or that its just not my time yet.

What always surprises me is the amount of weight LORs are given, whether it's college applications, officer applications, and all kinds of other programs. They often comprise BS, and many of them come from people who barely even know the applicant. Ideally it would be more of a nice-to-have item just to 'validate' that the applicant does what they say they do, with the weight being almost 100% placed in the more objective areas (GPA, interviews, motivational statement, resume). Also the LORs from Senators/Representatives and O-7s who never met the applicant and other things like that really delegitimize the overall value of LORs.

LOR's are barely looked at for many designators.

Well looks like I am wrapping this up, hopeful. Got everything together. EIT cert, stellar LORs from O-5s and 6s, civilian director, OAR 64, MEPS, and did 3 CEC interviews (2- Capts, 1- LCDR, might have another LCDR as well), even served directly under leading local NOSC officer (one of my previous DIV-Os, small Navy...) fighting for me. Best of luck come August..... Worst case applying next year with another degree....
