Admittedly haven't read your link, but was it illegal? If not, then what's the story?

The appearance of impropriety can be damaging to the buy if is held up due to concerns of corruption. That doesn't mean there is corruption but I wouldn't put it past some MP's trying to make political hay out of it just like Trudeau did with the F-35 and causing delays as a result.

Given Canada's current political leader I doubt they would look at deploying any jets anywhere, maybe forces for logistic support but I would doubt anything else.
Which is another strange reason they went with Supers. not because there is anything wrong with them. I'm only public, but I'm told we are happy with ours. They have been a learning curve, bridging us to 5th gen.

Canada could have block 3f F-35 in a similar time frame, that they will get their Supers IOC. Other than politics, and nothing stops them saying it wasn't a core promise or the situation has changed. I'm dumbfounded.

I can't see them cancelling the F-35, just kick the can down the road.

Not sure how easy it is to put a spotlight on an F-35 for intercept and escort. I'd argue they probably don't need anything more than a Rhino for the foreseeable future, all politics and partisan issues aside.

It seems to me that in such a small overall force, ending up with two different airframes would be the worst of both worlds. They'd get the big bill for F-35s, plus a logistics and training headache sustaining a small force of Rhinos.

For the foreseeable future sure, the problem is that their choice will likely be flying long after the foreseeable future.

I'd say the last 20 years have proven we're generally shit at accurately foreseeing what will happen in the foreseeable future.
I think we've always been terrible at predictions. History is full of cases were nothing worked out the way people thought it was going to.

I meant specifically with regards to forecasting what wars we'd wind up fighting and what we'd need to fight them, but yes.
