A good rundown on the benefits of the AMEX Platinum Card from the Points Guy.

https://thepointsguy.com/guide/maximizing-amex-platinum/

Earlier I mentioned that the Hyatt credit card from Chase offered 2 free nights at any Hyatt in the world, this has now changed to a points system good for 2 free nights at a Category 5 or lower. The fee is $75 per year and you still also get 1 free night every year at a Category 4 or lower - and those nights can be well over $200 so you should come out ahead if you know that you will be staying at a Hyatt sometime during the year.

So I got my Chase Sapphire in early 2017, and they aren’t waving fees if you opened before Sept 2017. Kinda mad.

Probably worth calling a couple times, it may just be that you spoke to the wrong person. Alternatively, I wonder if closing and reopening the account would work, or changing the current card to a no-fee card like a Freedom and then opening a new Sapphire. It'd suck to take that hit to your credit score from the hard pull and the age of accounts, but it probably/maybe sucks less than 450 a year.

I got mine waived. But I've got the Sapphire Reserve, maybe that's the difference?

Nope, Sapphire Reserve. I did the email thing but I’m gonna call later and try that way. Just frustrating that when you opened it matters this much.

So I had to call twice, and was turned down the first time. Apparently your state of residence matters as some of them have expanded SCRA benefits. Good luck.

Mind me asking what's yours? I'm a FL resident.

For what it’s worth, I called Chase a few months ago and requested SCRA benefits for my Sapphire Reserve. It took them a couple of weeks but after a short review they granted them. Just passed the one year mark of having my card and no sign of the annual fee on my account.

Anyone have any luck changing their preferred airline on AMEX platinum outside of Jan? I know it's one per year in Jan, but due to inattention and/or laziness I failed to do so until the beginning of feb...

So I just closed my Luxury Gold Card to beat the annual fee by a couple days and learned immediately after doing so that its possible to pay off student loan debt by charging "Gift of College" gift cards to the account before you close it, then using those cards to pay down a loan. Apparently, you can then close the account, but continue with the 0% APR until paid off. Had no idea "Gift of College" gift cards were a thing and didn't even think about 0% APR after I closed the account. Figured I'd throw it to the masses if anybody still has the card. Full disclosure- this little tidbit came from the comments section of some points maximizing site, but seems like a reasonable strategy

Wondering if anyone can shed some light on my situation - I currently have a gold amex and pay the annual fee but I am thinking of upgrading to platinum in the near future - I won't be AD until after the summer and was wondering if anyone thinks the $550 will be waived initially.
I called them and they told me it would depend on when i became active duty and wouldn't give me an exact answer but from what I have been reading, all prior years have been refunded - does this include during years you were not AD?
