It gets worse, unfortunately.

If you are fortunate to live to an older age, those – college panic dreams of tests and forgotten assignments/courses, and good nights in DC making you late, et. al. - do thankfully decline... but still do occur occasionally.

For me they are mostly replaced by the "I just received orders to a deploying squadron" even though I'm way too old, long been a civilian, and with many other important commitments.

Nevertheless I then get thrust back into a different Navy, forever lost in my dream and wandering on the much bigger carrier trying to find the RR and Dirty Shirt Wardroom, not to mention a much needed head. I finally meet my new squadron, except I am old enough to be their grandfather; I outrank the CO, and wonder what the hell I am doing here? As does everyone else in the squadron. And then I start to wonder if I can still trap at night.... or do I even want to try? That is about when I fortunately wake up!

This version may require professional counseling...or a slow gin drip. :)

I've dreamed that I was in the middle of SERE again, though strangely the dream seemed not to suck as bad as the real thing did.

I'm not an Academy guy, but I have a recurring college dream. It's the end of the semester and I realize that I had forgotten to go to one class (usually English/Literature). All semester.

I have this exact same nightmare from time to time. It usually happens in December and/or May.

Maybe it's an enlisted jarhead thing but I often have nightmares or moments of sheer terror when I realize that I don't have my rifle on me. Scarier than combat or re enlistment papers.

Not just an enlisted jarhead dream, although mine always involves knowing EXACTLY where my pistol is... As I stare into a porta-shitter in Al Asad... FML! Thank god I always wake up and realize I'm NEVER going back there...

Not to diverge to far from the thread topic but this reminds me of one of the funniest experiences I ever had. It's a pitch black night with no moon and cloud cover/sand storm on the outskirts of Marjah and we're out pulling security for an outpost being built by my fellow engineers and HE. The only light source is our vehicles and the occasional flares 1-2 miles away.

We start taking some rounds from a nearby compound and get permission to go clear it. Our guys move in to clear the compound but their NVGs are little to no help as they enter. Well, we had a Sgt attached to us who was full-captain-america-follow-my-tracers-retarded that decided to take point and rush into the compound and he didn't have a flashlight or anything to see. Long story short, Sgt. America steps into the black unknown and suddenly they hear a girlish yelp as he plunges into a 15 foot cess pit that is filled with about 10 feet of liquid crap and piss.

Winner releases his m16 to the bottom of the cess pit so that he doesn't drown as he's clinging to the side whimpering like a little girl while he tries to keep his head above the "water." We have to bring rope to get him out. Then our Lt. gives him an an e-stake and some rebar and tells him to get fishing for the rifle. It took him hours to get that rifle out. Poor sucker had to take antibiotics for weeks.

Is it true that you guys (Naval Aviators) never really get used to night traps?

Night_Trap_Cover.jpg

True. I had to look up the walkthrough on gamefaqs.com

I don't have those dreams. But I have an uncanny ability to block horrible things from my memory...

NIGHTMARE behind the boat.

Playing nightly at an aircraft carrier near you, somewhere sailing and searching for wind in the blackass seven seas.

YES! It's a dark and rainy night, the seas are roiling & angry, and you want me to what?....oh, never mind.

They allow walkthroughs for CQ?
Yes, they're called 'Sims' (simulator carrier passes), & many, many LSO controlled MLPs (Mirror Landing Practice) passes prior to going to the CVN for CQ.;)
