Yeah the straw that broke the back for USAF was a leg break that rivaled Joe Theismann's

I didn't know any specifics but I do know it was them that killed it and injuries was a factor, know what happened to the stud?

Did that O-Course in Aircrew School. An absolute ass kicker, but it was definitely a big confidence bump.

Yeah, but I still hated those two walls and the sand.

Guy was in class behind me I think. He was a USAFA track or x-country type runner and came down off one of the walls the wrong way. Guess the rest of the folks waiting for their turn to run heard his leg break. Can't remember if the injury was a flight career ender.

That class and all behind did a temp stop which turned into a permanent stop.

Thanks for the update. So you check in, get your orders stamped, and they schedule you for the next APIT?

That part hasn't been firmed up yet, as the "APIT upon check in" won't start happening until after this coming Friday. I assume it'll be every Friday? I'll update the thread when I find out for sure. I'm sure though, that it will work like you guessed it would. That's how the rest of your appointments get set up.

Yeah I'll be curious to see how it goes this Friday. I can only imagine 100 people running the chip trail.

Well, we had about 200 Ensigns and Lieutenants do the APIT today, which was interesting. The vast majority passed.

From here on out, it will be conducted every Friday, and new check-ins will have to take it the week they get here. Word is that if you check in late in the week you report, they may give you until the next Friday to take it.

ALSO: One of the Lieutenant Commanders briefed us a day before the event, and stated that they are pushing for Ensigns to be weighed the moment that they report here, and if you were above the weight limit (we assume he meant the 231 pound aviation limit) you would be "sent back to your commissioning source". I didn't think that was possible, as I thought they would just redesignate here, but that's what was said. Either way, don't show up fat. They're really cracking down on that here.

When I was in API, we mustered every day and went home. The motivated went home and got ahead for IFS and/or started reading the pubs for Aero. I never understood why the staff always told us not to worry about studying for API prior to starting class.

Rather than making you guys line dance for PT 3 days a week, it would probably be helpful if they offered sessions on using that damn slide rule thing for Nav instead of having to learn how to use it in the few days prior to the nav test. It's not like you would ever navigate like that ever again in your career.

Just an update: I checked in last week, and the way it looks like they are doing it now is you take the next two weeks to get all of your appointments and medical upchit done, and then you take the APIT on Friday of that second week.

Correct. Also, I literally just found out that they are apparently moving the "Swim week" normally done in week two of API to A-pool, due to too many guys rolling and getting put in B-pool swim hold. Insert puns about going to the Pool in A-Pool here.

This sounds like people with dead end careers are just fucking with the new guys coming in. Send em back? That's ridiculous, pt em for a couple weeks, re-weigh. Probably a lot cheaper.

I have a feeling this may be a reaction to the overall continuum of fitness throughout the training pipeline..or lack thereof. When 23 year-old CAT 1s are showing up to the RAG out of standards and/or unable to pass the PRT, I'm guessing they're seeing similar issues throughout the pipeline.

But I agree, certainly cheaper to keep them and deal with it locally.
