27 SEPTEMBER 2015 OCS Class

Everyone should be flying (if you're not driving here) into T.F. Green (PVD) airport which is just outside Providence, RI. Orange Cab runs a shuttle to Newport and can access the base. If you use your report letter (those of you that aren't priors) you can stay at the Navy Gateway Inns on base. It is much cheaper than out in town and you won't need to get another cab to get to base. Call them and make a reservation for the shuttle at (401) 841-0020.

If you decide to stay off base for the night prior to reporting that is fine, but here is some tips: 1. make the reservation through the hotel directly (ie NOT on Travelocity, etc) because you need to retain a copy of the receipt from the hotel for reimbursement on your travel claim; 2. You can call Orange Cab to pick you up at the hotel and drive you onto base. DO NOT plan on walking. It is a very long walk. My rec: Arrange some groups through this site and the FB group. Work together.

If you're driving then you will need your reporting orders and your driver's license in order to access base. Once on follow the signs for "OCS Arrivals" and the Candi-Os will help direct you to the student parking lot. And I'll just put this out there... Do NOT plan on being able to access your car very much, and DO NOT plan on storing items that are prohibited in your cars to be had when you do access it (ie candy, cigarettes, cell phones, etc). There are always eyes on you one way or another here so why risk the punishment, but more importantly... have some integrity and honor and don't do something you know you're not supposed to.

If anyone has any travel concerns let me know so I can help you.
Sir,
My orders are a little confusing. They say report NET 25SEP NLT 26SEP. Then later on in the "when directed separate" part of the orders it says report NET 27SEP NLT 27SEP. When do I need to be there? I don't mind staying the night in a hotel I just don't want to get there too early and them not be ready for us yet.

I'm sorry to hear your orders are as clear as fog. Everyone is to report by noon on Sunday 27 SEP. If anyone suffers travel delays be sure to call the Command Duty Officer 401-862-4321 and let us know.

Sir, it says to have medical records with you, however, medical on base here has the policy that unless you are going to a ship you cannot take the physical copy of your medical records. They give you a form that your gaining command will fax back and they will ship the records to your gaining command. Is this going to be a problem? Thanks.

AE2,
If medical will not give your record to you because of their precious "policy" then so be it. I don't see any immediate medical implications. It is all in the online database anyway since you are a prior. Just make sure you have the information to have it requested to expedite the process. As long as you can fill out a PARFQ with no troubles you will be able to take the initial strength test (PRT) on the first Wednesday and be good to go. If you have any problems let me know. graig.a.withrow@navy.mil

Joined the Facebook group. Hope to see all of you in a few days! Just got back into town after a long trip and realized I have a good amount of memorizing done (appendix b). Anyone else having a hard time with all the acronyms?
Thanks for all the info @navygraig ! Definitely will send you a dm with all the questions I have (that i haven't not searched already for / need clarification on).

My processor informed me he was shipping all of my documentation out there prior to me showing up. Does that sound normal? Or should I get copies of everything myself as well if possible?

He probably will and it is fair to take him on his word. But, it is then trusting the mail... Make sure you have all of the documentation required as listed on the OCS website. If you have that, you'll be all up round. That way you don't have to rely on anyone else

Does everyone have their travel plans set? Do you have a hotel for Saturday night? Have you set up transportation from the airport to your hotel and then to base Sunday? Plan to arrive by mid-late morning on Sunday. There is A LOT to do and it will be a long day! I hope you're ready!!! Your life is about to change forever! Its a great thing and you have all worked hard to get here. Remember, it will be a challenging marathon! You decided to pursue military service in the best damn Navy in the history of the world for a reason! Keep that in mind during every day of training! See you on Sunday! If you have questions or concerns let me know. - LT Withrow
