23 JUN 2013

The only other SNA March applicant from UF I knew of got his date pushed back to July 14. After speaking with my OR, he said it's not uncommon for them to shuffle people around classes to fill them out a little more uniformly.

I have had a solid June 23 date for NFO since early February, but I was also just pushed to the July 14th class for some reason. Kind of sucks, but at least I'm still going. Good luck everyone.

I've had my date since about January and just recently got bumped. I have a buddy who just got out of OCS and he has not recieved any orders due to the fact that they have a huge backup of people without any prior flight experience trying to get through IFS. I think aviation related positions are getting bumped due to the high volume trying to get their 15 hrs. Its crappy but like you said, at least we have spots.

Since I got picked up for OCS a few months ago I actually started my PPL and will have about 10-11 hrs done by the time I get to P'cola. I am hoping I can just bypass IFS and go straight into API, and since I'm going NFO maybe the instructors will allow me to do that.

Nope. You need the PPL to skip IFS. Someone from my OCS class soloed on his own while IFS was still on sequester hold and was told he still would have to do IFS.

If they weren't letting people through with solo flights during a time when the future of IFS was uncertain, they probably aren't going to let people skip when they know they have the money for it. IFS is kind of fun anyways.

Before you request skipping IFS, do some research to see what the delay (pool) situation is. Better to pick up that FREE 'fun' flight time to pad your flight log book, than hang out at the beach/bars drinkin' & hustln', and all the other lurid activities that proper Naval Officers never partake in..er, uh wait... oh never mind!;)
*Free flight time... Don't leave home without it!:D

BusyBee nailed it! A lot of the guys that got the "privilege" of skipping IFS from my OCS class were actually pissed that the others get the opportunity to complete it. They want the free flight time too.

I have my PPL, Instrument and Commercial with a bunch of other endorsements here and there. So I guess I'll get to skip it. YAY!

Why would they be pissed about not getting flight time in a crappy 172, that sounds kinda dumb.

Thanks guys for the info. I figured I would probably be put in IFS, and I have no problem with that. I am actually really glad though that I took 10 hrs on my own before heading down there, as I am now very familiar with flying, so IFS should be more fun now that I somewhat know what I'm doing. Best of luck to you all.
