I don't think flashlights are contraband. The first night we were there, after Taps, all the flashlights came out, I know I didn't stash mine in my car for indoc week.

Yah, that's what I'm saying... I figure if the DEP guide says it's ok, I dont understand why the OCS website says it wouldn't be, blanket too. I wonder what would happen if they cracked down on the flashlights?

I am in the BDCP so right now they have me working in recruiting with the DEPers, so as far as the DEP guide goes, it is geared towards enlisted not officers, especially the DEP PQS. Hope everyone is enjoying the last few days of freedom. See you all in 2 weeks.

i understand how most of you here who have a class date are feeling. you want to know as much as you can, get every tip, and learn all there is to prepare yourself for ocs. it's the logical thing to do, try to educate yourselves.

however, that being said, from someone who HAS gone through with ocs, who was once on this same board trying to read as much as he could, NOTHING here will prepare you for what you are about to partake save running your butt off, arriving to ocs being able to do 70 pu, 90 su, running at least a 10:30, and learning your big 3 which should be on the otcp website. if you do just that, you will be ahead of most people in your class. aside from that, knowing when you go on liberty, what the first week is like, etc wont help you as much as just showing up in shape and knowing your big 3. THIS CAN NOT BE STRESSED ENOUGH. show up in shape. know your big 3. aside from that, i recommend, if you so desire, to use this board as a way to meet your fellow classmates.

if you think about it, this site is just a rumor board. there are VERY few people here that are privy to pertinent information. "what are my chances?" "when is the next board?" ask your recruiter. they would have the answers. if you want to compare stats, great. if you want to see what someone else had in his package to perhaps add to yours, so be it. however, people here should realize that the people they're looking for answers to a lot of their questions are as much in the dark as they are. what worked for one may not for another. it's all just gouge, hearsay. remember, i was once doing the exact same thing. going through ocs will make you realize how funny this website is.

I'm getting kinda tired of reading through theses boards trying to find every detail about what OCS will be like.

I'm VERY excited about starting OCS (it's been a 2.5 year wait), but I think I'll be keeping it simple from now on... run, push, curl, memorize. That's it.

Just 2 weeks left.

Just show up in shape. That's all I did, and I did fine. Vince_c is right this whole page is just a rumor board. I never even looked at it before I went through OCS, and I made it just fine. The only gouge I have seen on this whole site that is not in some way distorted is the fact that you need to show up in shape. Good luck, guys. Be ready for pain.

hey 05-05, im reading alot of posts on here inquiring about things to and not to bring. so let me summarize. flashlight: bring it DEFINITELY after taps you are NOT going to be able to have the light on, blanket....questionable, you will get sheets for squad bay (including a blanket) and your first issue will include a pair of sweats, it gets pretty cool in squad bay at night so most people slept in those, dont sweat the whole sleeping on top of the bed, when you meet your CDI he's gonna wreck your bed to ensure that you know how to make it anyway. you guys will be in the sniper trail with either fowler, hecht, or gill for CDIs so lock the f*** on. pack lightly, but not too light, make sure you have enough essentials to last a week+2. nobody wants to be next to the guy wearing dirty draws and a funky t-shirt. with questionable items, once you get to the sea wall (if your in a car) a candie-o will read off a list of items, if its on there leave it in the car; if not, youre good to go. they wont let you bring a blanket into squad bay, but you can recover it later (during a POV run) if you so desire. i will tell you, following outpost there is no shortage of "navy-style" blankets in the gear lockers and it's one less thing to carry/be responsible for. other convenience items...i would recommend bringing. facial soap and other niceties can be recovered in the second week POV run. just the basics for week one though. if youre driving (which i highly recommend) youll be able to have an intermittent storage locker seeing as how NEX runs are few and far between (not that POV runs arent), and highly monitored put stuff in your car that will brighten you up. (ie: a charged phone/ runs are less than 10mins so...)dont worry about doing anything exerting for the first few days, until youve been up-chitted by NOMI and cleared the in-pfa (probationary) you wont do anything physical, but that doesnt mean you wont be exhausted. make sure you show up with an empty bladder, and get used to drinking 04 glasses of water for a while. good luck....hoorah 05!!!

Vince is absolutely correct, so I'll repeat the startling facts from a recent class:

*** Resolve any and all medical issues prior to OCS (-2)

*** Show up prepared to pass, hopefully surpass, the in-PFA (-13)

What began as a class of 46 ended the first week @ 31!!

05 (or whatever class number this is now):
I reiterate myself...
SHOW UP IN SHAPE. That is all you need to know. People who are currently at OCS trying to tell you every little detail that should happen are ok, their intention is good. But if you go into that first day of indoc week thinking that you know everything because you put alot of faith in what people say on here, guess what? You don't. Just show up in shape and take it day by day.

I'm going with the absentee ballot. It worked in college so I'm going to try it again :)

For those of us going early, where are you staying? I tried the Navy lodge but they are full and the BOQ told me to stop by with my orders when I got thereand if they have room I can stay. If you have any advice it would be much appreciated.
