21 Days Left!

Hey everyone!I've been on leave for a while and I just went over all of the posts. Lots of good info, thanks BORNCREOLE for taking the initiate to start a phone list, that's great! I am currently overseas and won't have a cell phone to contact anyone when I arrive in P-cola on the 17th. But the phone list will be helpful, so don't be surprised if I give one of you a call at some point before the 19th. I'm looking forward to this challenge and I feel like we're all going to do very well. Hit me back if you have any questions, personal or othewise. Stay encouraged and keep the faith.

hey 05-05 greetings from ocs, make sure youre locked on when you get here or else youll be in a world of pain. i think you guys may get class drill instructor Gysgt Fowler USMC, which should be fun to watch. as for the prep classes, i will tell you, some people took them in our class brought their completion forms and still were required to take the classes/exam. at this point there is no "clepping" out of the coursework. its good to bring them in case the policy has changed. definitely get a mentor, theyre trying to work it out so that your mentor is in fact your class officer but theres been some difficulty in that. either way, make sure you bring copies of any and all medical records, run run run.....you will be running everywhere here and breaking the 2mile formation run distance by halfway through your 2nd week, get yourself a 2AA HEADLAMP (much better and convenient than a mag light), and get some blue masking tape from home depot that stuff is as good as gold here and very hard to come by. know your big 3 prior to getting here, permits you to sleep somewhat more instead of studying it. You will be required to know them by the end of your 1st week. keep your chin up, and keep the faith. its rough no doubt about it, and the stress factor is high, but it moves quick so prepare as best you can. good luck all of y'all from 01-05

Good Luck

Hello all,

I just want to say good luck to you all in OCS! Your threads give me motivation to make it to OCS and are helping with what I have to look forward to. I am applying for BDCP, but you're in the position I hope to be in soon. I look forward to seeing you all in future and reading some stories.

Hey guys. Hope everyone's prep is going well. I know I've mentioned this before, but is anyone planning on bringing a blanket w/ them? I've gotten conflicting info on the subject (i.e., recruiter says yes, OCS site says no). I'd like to err on the side of caution and just not bring a blanket, flashlight, or anything else the website says not to, but JayManC's post makes me question that. I guess if I brought them anyway the worst that could happen is they'd be confiscated and I'd end up doing pushups. I expect to be getting yelled at a lot anyway....

Also, does anyone know how we'll be asked to regurgitate the Big 4? I have the information memorized, but I wonder how we'll be expected to spit it back out.

Keep working hard, guys!

You'll be asked things during inspections like "What's the fourth general order of a sentry?" "What's the second article of the code of conduct?" "Who's the 12th person in your chain of command?" You'll never be asked to recite it all in a row.

i would just get a friend to randomly pick orders, articles, people in chain of command, and navy/marine ranks and just recite them back. then just keep doing it faster and faster so you learn to reply on instinct and with no hesitation.
As for blankets, flashlights and other questionable items, if your that concerned, just keep them in your car until after the first week. if your not taking a car you might could get in touch with a classmate the day before and keep it in there car. thats what most of the people i know from ocs did.

Well, my plan is to strictly follow the "Things to Bring" page of the OCS website and leave everything else in my car.

I would offer some storage space, but I have a pretty small trunk :watching_ (I don't know how I'm going to fit my golf clubs, tennis racquet, AND roller blades in there  )

Dude, bring the flashlight. You will need it. As far as the blanket goes, that is a good idea so you can just sleep on top of your rack and tweak it in the morning instead of remaking it. One of my roomates slept on the floor in a sleeping bag just so he would not ever touch his rack. I think that is a little unecessary, but oh well. Where was I going with this? Oh yeah, BRING THE FLASHLIGHT.

nice, welcome to the class. I think we are all getting together beforehand (like on saturday) but i don't think we've really solidified our plans yet. or maybe they have and i'm just left out..... :( haha, Borncreale has a phone list if you PM him... or i could forward it to you also.

While the Navy OCS site states not to bring a flashlight or personal blanket, my DEP Guide that my recruiter gave me specifically says under the "Thing to Bring" section 1.) "k) small 'AA' size flashlight" and 2.) "l) plain "Navy Type" blanket."

I dunno, I figure I'd bring 2 flashlights/blankets, one in my bag for day 1, and if its confiscated, then you still have a backup in the car for later down the line. Just a thought :)
