Are the Airspeed and Heading knobs on the P-8 not drastically different in their knurling like other 737-800's?
They are different, but when you go from the P-3 to the P-8 a knob is a knob, and the last thing you are thinking about is the knurling. I think its one of those things that almost everyone does when they are learning the new platform and then you never make the same mistake again.

I guess I have to let the cat out of the bag...
COMNAVSURFLANT has decided to choose me as part of their pilot program to bring the safety and CRM culture of Naval Aviation to the SWO side of the fleet.

Apparently they think we can help reduce their rate of mishaps and bring some leadership to the Black-Shoe Navy.

Reporting to Norfolk in July for a year on a Cruiser, then on to my original tour.

Supposed to be career enhancing, according to the detailer...

A year on a cruiser, surrounded by Shoes, and your job is to tell them everything they’re doing wrong? Damn, homie.

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy...

In all seriousness, check the date.

Nah, this is legit-I texted my detailer buddy about this track after he posted this.

Seventh Fleet Warriors, I need your input.
I’m about 2.5 months from departing KNIP for destinations west...my brown, government issue, passport is expired. I went into admin at VP-30 to inquire about renewing it, as I expect to be flying about the 7th Fleet AOR soon. They told me they don’t do passports anymore, it’s just orders and ID’s. If I wanted a passport I was going to need some documentation from the squadron proving need.

My bullshit meter is pegged on high here. I reached out to my sponsor, but they just got there, so not expecting to hear back immediately.

Any recent returnees from the land of the rising sun have any input?

Thanks,
Pickle

You're supposed to have a country and specific date on the application/renewal form (Form DS-some number), otherwise the passport office kicks it back. The way things would work, if common sense applied, is either your PCS orders will have a "might travel to these countries" list or your new squadron will put something in writing that says you'll be deploying to "these countries." Just to make it a tight case, at least one country should be in the Foreign Clearance Guide as a mandatory official passport for official travel there.

The local passport office cooperated with no fuss at all when we had a reservist with a handful of countries listed in his mobilization orders and two or three of them were mando brown passport according to the FCG.

The old way was you just made up some country and date and wrote those on the form. Then your command endorsed it and sent it to the local passport office for you... which brings us back to where you're stuck right now.

No idea if some "letter of intent" from VP-xx would do the trick, that's up to the resident Seventh Fleet Warriors.

In other words, good luck.

The Jax Passport Lady recently helped a GS get his paperwork through when she didn't have to. If you swing by PSD, you can probably get some more solid gospel from her than listening to a STUCON admin (or whatever it is at -30).
