12 JUN 18 IWC Board

Can anyone provide some insight on the new program authorization?

Did the new 108D program authorization go into effect for this board? The deadline was 5/4 and the signature on the authorization is dated 6/1, but the authorization is just dated May...

Generally if the application has been processed through the NRC processor it will go to board.

I think you have a good shot at Intel, good Undergrad GPA, good OAR. Crypto might be more of a long shot because they "Strongly Prefer" STEM degrees. I also wouldn't give up on JAG either if that's what you want. Keep trying for JAG as you try and go for Intel in my opinion. Also, have you checked out PAO? It's a very small community, but your tangibles might be of interest, here is the PA:

PAO nearly exclusively pics those in the MC rate, I can count on one hand the number they have picked that were not, and at least one of those was doing the PAO job as a civilian, sometimes they don't even look at civilian applicants.

JAG is highly competitive, so much so that the ones they pick have near perfect GPA's there are so many people graduating law school they can be incredibly selective.

Well definetly listen to this man LAW, he knows exactly what he is talking about. Then Intel seems to be your best shot, if you had started this process a couple years ago SWO would have been a great option for you. Just spittballin' here but if you really feel like JAG is what you want the Marine Corps also has a JAG program, not sure the specifics but maybe look into. Best of luck!

Thank you both very much! I appreciate it.

I'm glad to know that I have a good shot at Intel! That's the career I'm most interested in at this point. It sounds like they may be willing to overlook the lackluster law school GPA due to the good undergrad GPA and OAR score, correct?

I hope the national debate championship win and the language skills help. (I speak fluent Spanish and I'm working on Japanese at the moment.)

It sounds like Crypto and PAO would be more long-shot attempts. Would it be worth putting them at 2nd or 3rd choice just in case?

I know JAG is extremely competitive. My law school GPA drives me nuts since I've always performed extremely well academically at every point in my life before or since. Just prior to law school, my LSAT was a 167 (top 3% of law students) and my 67 OAR from Nov. 2017 was pretty high too. People call me The Encyclopedia.

Anyway, I could try the Marine Corps JAG or possibly Marine Intel. That's an idea. Thanks!

Still, I'm from a Navy family, I'm keenly interested in the Indo-Pacific area, and I miss the ocean. So I'm thinking my best bet is still Navy Intel.

From my understanding, the max age is 28 for Marine Corps OCS, but they grant waivers up to 34(33?) and 364 days. A Marine Officer recruiter told me that the single biggest factor for getting the waiver approved is your PFT score. They look for a 262+. Also, Marines, like the Army compete for their 'jobs' (community, specialty, branch) in OCS. Not sure if JAG is different, very possible that it is due to special requirements. Definitely get in touch with a Marine Corp recruiter to get some more solid info.

They don't care about language skills very much, enlisted are the language specialists (CTI etc). But I think Intel is certainly feasible, GL!

OK. It sounds like Marine Corps Intel is an option, but not the best. I'm not too keen on the idea of going to OCS or TBS and still not knowing what job I'm getting. I looked into Marine JAG a bit years ago. They have their own program, so you don't have to compete to get a JAG slot if you were hired for PLC-Law. So that may be an option. Still, I'd rather pursue Intel first and foremost before going for JAG again.

Thanks! I'm really hoping Navy Intel works out this time. I'd love to finally get going on a Navy career!

you could put CW down your advance degrees may make them look a bit more at your application, but no tech degree helps.

PAO is a different animal, rarely does anyone apply to anything but PAO, and I have never seen them take anyone that didn't put them #1, and that fact you haven't done the job and you are not an MC.

OK, thanks! If I don't get in to Navy Intel this time, I'll be sure to include both Intel and CW next time. I'll also have to get some interviews.

Hi everyone! I've been following this board for a while and figured I would go ahead post my stats. I applied for both the 14 May SWO board and the 12 Jun IWC board and am looking forward to hearing back!

Just graduated from university and have no prior service.
Applying for 1830
Age: 21
Degree: B.A. International Studies and Political Science minor
GPA: 3.92, Magna Cum Laude
OAR: 45 (a little nervous about this)
LORs:
- 2 x 06 Naval Officers (one is retired but a mentor of mine since I was a child and one active duty intel)
- History professor
- Former employer at U.S. Embassy
Languages: Advanced French, Intermediate Russian, and basic Arabic
Experience:
- High school (went to international schools overseas if that counts for anything) : Soccer team co-captain, editor-in-chief of school newspaper, class representative and student council treasurer
- University: Scholarship chair of national honors fraternity, played intramural soccer, began running half-marathons and ran a marathon, worked several summers at a U.S. embassy, and studied abroad in Morocco for a semester

Best of luck to all of you waiting for decisions as well!

Try posting stats here: https://www.airwarriors.com/communi...nsiders-competitive.41212/page-45#post-913545 you will get a better response.
Your GPA is very competitive for Intel, OAR is a bit low, but GPA might make up for it. What did you put as your #1 option, Intel or SWO? SWO seems to be looking at *other* things than just GPA and OAR, such as prior service and 'SWO Centric motivational statement' I think you would have a good shot at Intel.

Thank you for your thoughts and the link to the other post!

I listed SWO as my first option per my OR's advice and reading through some of the other threads on this site. He said that SWO tends to prefer that you list them as your first choice, but INTEL is harder to predict. For my motivational statement, I did my best to tell my story and highlight skills and experience that would apply to both designations. I read some examples of motivational statements for SWO applicants who had been selected, but modified it a little more after speaking with both of my 06 USN recommenders to make it more applicable to INTEL as well.

putting an IWC choice as #2 is essentially the kiss of death, for the longest time if you didn't put an IWC designator as #1 you weren't going to get selected. Supply is pretty much the same thing. IWC and Supply have very low selection rates, sometimes as low or lower than 10% while SWO can be much higher.

I appreciate your honesty. I'm still hoping I have somewhat of a chance, albeit maybe lower... This is my first time applying, so if I don't get picked up for anything this time around I will definitely take this into consideration the next time I apply!
