How much is everybody running and prepping physically? I'm running around 10 or so miles a week right now, and I'm transitioning from free weights to body weight training. Throwing in swimming too.
I've been working out with my alma mater's NROTC and the typical work out is run a half mile then about twenty-thirty push ups and two other calisthenic exercises then run another half mile then more push ups etc repeat with out a break until your whole body feels like jelly. Then take a break for water and do some more exercise. So I imagine OCS will be the same except about twice as intense and with DIs that are much better at yelling than an ROTC canido.

I was running pretty hard through the summer up to the Marine Corps Marathon last month. I have tapered off from that and started working more on core strengthening and calisthenics since I am comfortable with my run. If you haven't done a hefty amount of arm circles and other "silly" exercises the Navy now endorses, I urge you to do some. They may look ridiculous but when it comes to doing them repeatedly and for a long period you will be surprised. They aren't going to break you but wear you down in a different way. Swimming is excellent as well since it is a whole body workout. It will improve your pushups and ability to do flutter kicks and such. Throw some fins on to really work those hip flexors, it will improve your situp score as well as help on the typical beat down exercises.

Hi everybody, just wanted to introduce myself. It looks like I'll be joining y'all on January 12th. Hahaha, I'm coming from San Diego, so the weather shock will be pretty interesting, I'm sure. I'm coming in on the Pilot/NFO path.

Congrats Byron, looking forward to meeting you in just a few short weeks. If you like we also have a Facebook page that we use more often than this site. If you want to be added send me message or try and find me on Facebook. I'm not sure how hard it would be to find me on Facebook, try and look for Mike Manwell out of virginia beach, va.

If weather is bad enough then yeah, they'll hold the PRT in the gym at Kay Hall. They do 20 laps around the gym for the mile and a half, which sucks for several reasons. First it's a LOT more cramped than doing it out on the track. Second, it's more boxy than rounded, so you have to turn four corners 20 times (my biggest pet peeve was people passing on the inside instead of the outside, so there'd be people cutting between me and the cone. And of course the DI told me to shut up when I tried to tell them to pass on the outside). Third, the surface of the court doesn't have as much give as the rubber stuff out on the track, so it can be tough on your shins (most people should be fine, since you're only running for 10-15 minutes). I was told to expect a shorter run time because of the shorter distance (supposedly 1.5 miles is closer to like 22 laps), but I actually added half a minute when we did ours inside.
And Jon, I don't think they'll make you run stairs. That could be pretty dangerous, especially as a group. This is an organization that makes you tuck in your shoelaces so you don't trip, they're pretty safety-minded.
When we had to do Reg PT indoors, they had us do it with our own respective companies, and since it was a strength and conditioning day, our PT body just led us in a bunch of exercises from the card. We just got a bunch of mats from the laundry and worked out in our own P-way. On a run day, they would just split it up between floors (or "decks," as they'll be called at OCS), and they'd do laps around the kill zone. I was UI on something else that day, so I don't know too much about how it went.
There is no more running in the P ways or Killzone. They go to Gym 109. As for the run time yes lol everyone got a max or outstanding after two weeks as Candi-O's and getting from the dessert cart.
