12 January 2014 OCS class date

Has anyone been looking for places to live when we head down to P'cola? I was told to look for somewhere between P'cola and Milton. Now of course that is contingent that I would go to Whiting Field following API... I am not sure how the process goes for where you go for follow on training. However, I am moving down there with my two pups and will need a house rather than staying the barracks. I would have no issue, but the wife just received orders as the #1 JAG on a ship and will be going to SD while I am in training, so the pups have to go with me... If anyone is interested in rooming up together, they are great dogs and have been well invested in with training and obedience by a trainer endorsed by Caesar Milan (Dog Whisperer). If anyone has some tips or places to suggestions that would be great.

Tycho-Broche, I read your thread on places to stay but it sounds like you are in an apartment. Would that be correct? I have a feeling it's going to be a struggle to find a place that will allow two dogs in a rental...

If anyone knows of a place that is accepting of pets (two golden-retrievers) please shoot me a message so I can get in contact with pet friendly places. As a homeowner I know the worries and I will be willing to put up a pet deposit if necessary.

I have lived in Pensacola most of my life. Milton isn't necessarily close to NAS Pensacola, so it would be a real bummer if you got primary in Texas and had to move anyway. There are apartments right behind the back gate of the base, but more so there are a TON of neighborhoods with small to medium houses in a nice area. Renting should be relatively easy because home owners know trainees will take care of the place. Look into neighborhoods such as the Estates of Emerald Shores, Chandelle, or even small homes on Perdido Key if you want to live on the beach itself and be 5-10 min from the base. Rental cost should be around $900-1500 if renting a house, but luckily BAH should cover most of that. I've had a ton of SNA's and SNFO's live next door to me in Perdido Key and move after they finished IFS and API. Let me know if you have any more questions about the area.

Here's a good example of where to look: http://www.pointesouth.com/residential-leasing/

Yeah I was at Kings Mill Apartments, pretty nice place. Right down the street is Crestview at Oakleigh, and Governor's Gate is nearby too. I don't remember what the pet policy was at my place, but here's what their site says:
"Dogs, 2 allowed, Max weight 70 lb each, Fee $365, Fee Max $565
Dog friendly, most breeds/sizes accepted including large breeds.
Restrictions: Letter of temperament and pet interview may be required for some breeds."

About midway between NASP and Whiting, but of course, I was one of the (un)lucky ones sent to Corpus, so all my commuting was for nothing. From what I hear, most people are being sent to Whiting now, but I can't say for sure. It can vary weekly.

Spartan, that's all cool for you, but I have stuff to get down there in any case. If my wife weren't deploying and us being separated for awhile I wouldn't be so worried. The issue is finding pet friendly locations before the "PCS" season approaches. If you are prior or active you know what I mean if not, you will learn! Places go quick!

We will all be fine! Just stay fit and study up so nothing can hold us back. Has everyone downloaded their "knowledge" yet?
