Hi all - I'm posting my makeshift mech comp study guide for anyone who wants it. Disclaimer - there might be some errors in the practice problems/it's designed for someone (aka me) who has absolutely zero background in physics. Any concepts I needed extra help with I watched videos from "The Organic Chemistry Tutor" who was super helpful with the harder concepts. Happy studying!

Took ASTB a month ago and got a really low score. Im sure it was because of Math because I felt fine in every other section including PBM (thanks to all of you). And math carries a significant weight in all scores

Now I have taken up to Calculus 5.... But I had 10 probability problems out of 14 that I was asked in Math Section. And when I first moved to the states, I was placed in higher math class therefore NEVER learned probabilities.

Would somebody provide me with direct resource with similar probability problems?

Thanks! and congratulations to those who passed! I shall see you at flight school because I will pass this damn test!

Hi Rimsha, I saw your post, and although I have not taken the test yet, I have collected resources throughout this thread. A good resource would be first to go back and scan for the high score gouges, usually they will have posted a study guide along with them that has a math section where probability problems are present, around page 260 has a great one. As far as studying further, another great resource for generating probability problems is kuta software–see attached. You can google them and they have plenty of high level math worksheets, I attached two related to probability, specifically algebra 2 related. Start with the second attached file!

I have not taken the test yet, and I am not sure how in depth these probability questions get–if you could provide some examples of questions you received that would be great! I have been putting a lot of my focus towards exponential equation type problems, word problems etc., and a few probability. I'll definitely be looking more into these.

Hey that was a great help. My Math section had roughly the same kind of questions as from your attachments. Thanks a lot!

Question. Is there a such thing as to there being too low of a score to send in for a packet? I've found the preferred minimums and I'm above those (Scores are listed in the signature). I know they're about average, but I was hoping to send in my packet anyway on a chance before retaking the test again. It would be my 3rd attempt at it is the only reason I would like to send a packet in. Ever since my I started with my recruiter he has been trying to get me to apply for things other than pilot. It started with enlisting and trying to apply for an officer position after enlisting, once I turned that down he started pushing supply and SWO, and I finally told him today that I wouldn't consider those until Ive applied to a couple of aviation boards, and he called after that saying that he wasn't able to send in my packet because my scores were too low, and that I should reconsider supply. Pretty sure he's BSing, because I cant find any hard stops on just he ASTB, but figured I would look into it if I need to take the 3rd attempt again in the next month or so. Anybody have any info? Thanks in advance!

Geometry friends! Please help! I'm studying for the OAR and going through some of the packets. I've managed to understand and get through a bunch of the problems, however, the Geometry section is driving me crazy. This question especially:

Can someone please baby me through this question step by step as if I didn't know anything about mathematics? I've searched and scoured the internet for a proper explanation and can't find anything. The back of the book isn't helpful at all either with explaining how certain numbers are acquired and such.

Is there a specific part of you were wondering about? It looks pretty accurate to me.

Convert everything to inches so you're dealing with the same units. So the room is 324 inches by 384 inches. Multiply the two to find the total area you need to carpet. So that's 124,416 square inches. You know the width of the carpet already (27 inches) so take 124,416/27 to get the width of the carpet, which comes out to be 4608 inches. Divide by 36 to convert inches to yards which comes out to be 128, so the answer would be A.

You're an angel. Thank you for this. I understand it perfectly now.

I believe there are hard stops like 3s or 4s on the ASTB, but you're over those. I would keep insisting on sending your packet through if you want to apply. You're not as competitive as others, but I don't see a reason to bar you completely from applying.

Recruiters don't get credit if an applicant has a low GPA and/or a low ASTB score - EVEN if they meet the program authorization requirements. It's an actual calculator they use (not publicly available) and if you don't meet the calculated score, the recruiter does not get submission credit for your application.

I ended up getting the same scores you did. My recruiter wants me to test again to get my OAR up and I'm fairly confident I can get higher scores all around. You qualify, but I would see if you can get higher to be competitive. Hope to see you in the fleet one day!

Hey guys, just took the ASTB yesterday for the first time. I scored a 49 6/8/7 and I am applying SNA only. While my OAR is a lil’ low, my ASTB portion is pretty high. I was definitely hoping for a better overall score, but if this gets me in then that’s all that matters. I want to thank everyone on this forum for the excellent gouge provided. It was, by far, the best gouge I was able to study. Right now, I’m just waiting to hear back from my OR to see if we can proceed with my package with these scores or not.
