1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

I just took my ASTB yesterday, and want to say thanks to everyone for posting here - the info helped a lot!
My scores: 63 7/6/8
Applying for SNA
GPA: 2.48 in Computer Science

My GPA is low so I knew I needed to score high on the ASTB to have a decent chance of selection. I can re test before the May board if needed so I'm going to talk to my recruiter today and see what she thinks.

Any thoughts - should i try to retest?

Your ASTB scores are good overall, but you need to get that GPA up at all possible. I believe minimum to apply is a 2.5, but the higher the better.

It was okay, trickier than the practice I took. For a few questions that I thought I was spending too much time on I just picked a good estimate and moved on. It was frustrating to not know how many questions there were so I didn't know how many I had left/how to spend my time. There might be some info on how many questions there actually are but I didn't see it.

I wish I'd reviewed logs. There's a set of perfect numbers somewhere on this forum that you should just memorize.

Overall it's a lot of standard math that just takes practice to know how to approach problems. I definitely made some questions harder than I needed to.
Thank you!

My GPA is a lost cause, I graduated last May. I know it's pretty bad, but my recruiter thinks we can overcome it. Just trying to figure out if these scores are high enough to make up for most of it.
Ask her to give you your calculator results. There is some calculator that will give you a score based on all things combined. There is more info about that in the may board thread.

You need to "overcome" the GPA by taking probably 1-2 community college courses and bumping it up. See the calculator, you're not even eligible with the 2.48.

Bump the GPA up and you should be fine. I wouldn't recommend retaking the ASTB, the scores are fine as is. Your Pilot/NFO scores bump up to an 82 and 89 respectively with a 2.5 GPA.

First post ever. Looking to submit to the 23 May Pilot Board.

Age: almost 25, non prior
Degree: B/S Management & Business, Econ Minor
Professional experience: 2 years corporate/IT
GPA: 3.3
ASTB: 58 6/7/7
College Lacrosse Player, 1 ankle surgery - fully recovered and cleared

Not sure if legacy/references will help that much, but I would/could be 3rd gen Naval Aviation in my family if I get selected, and I have good refs from active/retired family friends who flew (1 active CDR, 1 ret. Rear ADM).

Thoughts?

Here's the thread for all of us submitting to the May board but from what I've seen you seem to have pretty good odds.

Age: 22
GPA: 3.0 ( i am still in school for another two semesters)
ASTB: 43 4/6/4
Degree: Computer Science
Applying for :SNA

Should i still submit my application? My OR showed me the calculator and i was close to the yellow zone. I'm not sure if i will do better the next time if i do it will be just slight as i was never a good test taker. I took the AFOQT before this and studied for months for the ASTB but i still ended up low.

I'm waiting for my PRK timeline to be complete so i will be applying by the end of this year or start of next year. Should i apply then retake or retake and hope for the best? I'm only afraid that i will do worse then i won't be able to apply at all.

I have a few flight hours as well.

I'm only an applicant so take this for what its worth, but based on what I've read, you need to get a higher ASTB to be more competitive. You must be pretty smart to get a decent GPA in computer science, so just study and retake the test. You don't want to be submitting a minimum score like those 4s. The test really isnt hard, just treat it like a job and study alot. I can send you a ton of info that I used to get a good score in only a week or two. let me know!
