    Age waiver

To be honeset, I think it will be an uphill battle for you but it is worth a shot. If I were you, I'd start calling every OSO you can to ask if they'll work with you. Remember that they don't need you to make their mission, so you'll need to do something else to make them want to work with...

History of the Eight Pointed Cover

I don't think there is any real history per se, at least not that I know of or am able to find, other than them having been part of the uniform since 1944. During the early years of WWII the Marines used a cover that was identical to that of the Army. In 1944 a design similar to the current...

    XBox: First To Fight

Well, duh! Because First to Fight is going to become part of SULE II. Sorry, could not resist.

    Jar Head

To be honest, I found it to be a good read and I think Swofford's attitude and professionalism to be about on par with most of the junior enlisted I served with during the same period as the author. Unquestionably, I will be seeing the film during the first few weeks. I fully expect it to...

Why does the Marine Corps have its own "Air Force"?

So that the grunts can locate, close with, and destroy the enemy. Having dedicated air support makes that a lot easier.

Is It Too Late For Occ191?

I'll be 34 in a month, so technically I could keep trying but as mentioned, I'm not getting any younger.

Is It Too Late For Occ191?

Smarti, To be honest, it really depends a lot on the economy and job market (which as you probably know is only so-so right now). When times are good and jobs are plentiful, there are less applicants and naturally more waivers. Candidates over 27 but under 30 need an age waiver...

Is It Too Late For Occ191?

I'd be more concerned about getting an age waiver. As a 30+ applicant, you'd need an "exception to policy" waiver which are not easy to get. Since I'm in the same boat, I'd be curious to know if your OSO agrees to work one for you. Mine is not helping any.

    Itb

Get a foam roll ( http://gymball.com/foamrolls.html ) and stretch the IT band that way. Lie on your side with the foam roll under your body around your upper hip so that your body is facing the wall. Using your hands, slowly pull your body forward until the roll is around your knee. This...

    Taking my commission

Sage advice indeed. I am a prior Marine and later applied and was accepted to attend OCC in 2001 (before all the current deployment fun began). I decided not to attend so as to remain in my then relationship and also to continue my career in the IT world. Well, thankfully that beotch...

    What's so cool about supply?

Crowbar, I thought that supply and logistic officer MOS's had been consolidated within the Marines. I base this on a conversation with a Log O. He may have mentioned the Motor T and maintenance consolidations and I took it to include supply as well.

    Anthony Swaffords book Jarhead

Amen brother. Amen. I read the book when it was first published and a lot of it really resonated with me as an enlisted GW1 vet. I do not think Swofford was a **** bird or even a bad guy. Whether a lot of us want to admit it or not, a lot of the Marine Corps look like Anthony...

    Improving the three mile

Thanks Pat, I'll sign up for a local 5k to get a baseline and then up the pace and see where I go from there. Good luck to you.

    Improving the three mile

Pat, I run around a 20:30 as well and do speedwork around 2x a month though I try to do it 1x a week (life gets in the way). Anyway, my ideal schedule is as follows: Sunday 7 - 10 miles @ 9:00, Monday - Off, Tuesday 3-4 miles @ 8:30 - 9, Wednesday 4-5 miles @ 8:30 - 9, Thursday - track...

    O1e?

    Thanks Beetle.

    O1e?

I'm sorry, I'm a little confused by this. What about the majority of us who do 4 full years, get out and then come back? Technically I only have 4 years, 0 days. Would I get O1E?

Monster Marine OCS thread: stupid questions answered here!

If you are talking about SERE school then the most interesting thing we ate were prickly pears. One night they gave us some rabbit stew to eat but that is about it (it isn't like you're eating bugs and snakes all day . . . ). It was definately an exercise in hunger management.

    Age Waivers

Has anyone heard anything lately on age waiver availability? I am actually interested in ground and am a prior enlisted Marine, though I am over the age limit. Previously it was tough getting a waiver, but I am hoping this is changing (along with increased ground slots). thanks.
