Bought it for 25 cents at the local library, finished it over one long, rainy day. Not bad story telling…certainly worth a quarter.

    NEWS Key Bridge - Baltimore

I checked….it’s on “MV Werdafuk Mycar.” Flagged out of Guadalcanal, I think.

    Primary Experience - Gouge 2024

As of recently COD pilots fly V-22’s, so that solves the issue.

Goodness Mike, I hope you are feeling better! Take care and we’ll look out for your more “disturbed” posts.

    NEWS Key Bridge - Baltimore

Good point. On most of my drives there was at leases one MSC ship (occasionally two) parked at Covington (where the cruise ships go).

    NEWS Key Bridge - Baltimore

All good points. When I lived in Virginia and drove north I typically the tunnel, but this was a good alternative. As for the port, once they finish the initial investigation, removing the debris shouldn’t take that long (unless the bureaucracy gets to work).

Took a quick look at ForeFlight, there is an active TFR over the bridge.

    NEWS Key Bridge - Baltimore

Beyond noting that the ship lost power at the worst possible moment, watching that bridge go down is horrible but fascinating.
  10. Griz882

    NEWS Key Bridge - Baltimore

I don’t think so. I’ve seen the Maryland State Police AW-139 and a USCG MH-65 (out of either DC or Atlantic City). After that, enough news helicopters to make a Vietnam War movie.

In a few years the question will be, “How many to fly an RPV from a trailer on the east coast versus how many on the west coast?”

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

I agree. Back in 2011, when I retired from the Guard, NGB would not let an individual (traditional guardsman) get to sanctuary. Basically, the Title 10 and ADOS stuff just stopped for that person. I ‘ll also note that Air Guard may have been a very different animal, what with all those jets and...

    Netflix recommendations?

Thanks, but I don’t read reviews…I’m my own critic and yes, that has led me to watching a lots of dogs!
  16. Griz882

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

Didn’t used to be that way. When I retired you could make 20 year points, but not go right into retirement. There was a NGB policy then that might have been cancelled.
  17. Griz882

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

This is true of all the reserve components including the army and air guard. You can actually get 20 years worth of points and end up close to the same retirement pay…but you aren’t going to see that money until you hit 60.

    Europe under extreme duress

I believe Putin would have laid the blame on the Ukraine if the attack was executed by sharks with laser beams delivered by time-traveling cyborgs from the future. The two things are related, but why not relate them if it helps your cause? Keep in mind that the overarching ISIS policy is to...

    Europe under extreme duress

The attackers are part of ISIS-K, active in Afghanistan…so Tajikistan is just across the Amu Darya River. The “why Russia” is either related to Putin’s support of Assad in Syria or even recent Russian “business” efforts in Afghanistan. Either way, this is likely something that has been in the...

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

Typically your admin types aren’t involved in tactical or strategic planning beyond manpower calculations and facility needs (all important). While having a field experienced officer in some shops is absolutely critical, placing a tactical pilot in an administrative/personnel shop is kind of a...

Not sure about frequently, but there are a number of careless pilots out there. Look up Jenny Blalock, aka TNFlygirl. She was fundamentally incompetent and died because of it. In one of her YouTube videos she actually gets lost in the pattern!

Eosinophilic Esophagitis and history of GERD

I’d say a mix of all. On (A) it important to note “military medical standards” are tighter, Item (B) is the most guilty. Get the kids with minor asthma or such and you save a load of VA dollars on the back side of even a short (4 year) enlistment. I don’t think US citizens are less healthy...

    Haiti

Could I step on a land mine instead? In today’s highly charged academic world you could lose your job for not telling the right tale. Europe under extreme duress

I mean, I kind of concur, but the symbols are rather a matter of national pride than identification. We are long past needing a symbol to actually see with the old Mk.1 eyeball. Most (gunpowder and shell) gunners today are going to aim for mass, not any specific part.

Maybe…the chart I posted is dated a bit. I think Iraq has changed theirs.
  49. Griz882

    Random Griz Aviation Musings

Of course they are dangerous…that’s why we fly them! The report is kind of silly, glossing over the fact that pilots who feel pressured (either self made or external) to get the job done regardless of the risk suffer similar accident rates across the fixed wing/rotary spectrum. At my airfield I...
