    In-Depth API Swim Question

They told us to use the frog kick for the tread but I don't remember them actually checking to see if we were using it in the pool. Most people do fine with the 2 min tread part, I noticed most people struggle with the 6-7 min float more. Use the butterfly clap for the float if you're a sinker.

Like someone else mentioned, talk to your class officer during junior officer candidate phase. He may just put you in touch with the detailer once you get your phones back. If not..OHARP isn't too bad, but your experience will vary greatly depending on where you go.

Having the peace of mind is nice. A good majority of people in my 4000 level classes don't really know what they want to do yet once they graduate. Internships aren't too much of a worry, either. You'll also save a lot more time by getting the application portion out of the way, which takes a...

    What NRC considers competitive

I would take a look at page two of this thread, "Try to limit your choices/preferences to two, as third choices more than likely won't be considered. And DON'T PUT SWO AS YOUR THIRD CHOICE as a fallback plan, the board will know it and it likely won't work." I believe the information is still...

    Final Select Purgatory

I'm still in the same boat. It's an odd feeling being in purgatory for this long, but the time will pass quickly. My buddy who was picked up in the same board as me is about to commission...meanwhile, I still have one semester of college left.

OCS Best Time to Talk to Officer Recruiter

If you're a sophomore, I would probably focus on school and staying involved in clubs/organizations in the meantime. I would contact an officer recruiter around spring semester of your junior year to get your application process started. My timeline went like this for reference (I graduate in...

    12 APR 17 SNA/SNFO Board

It shouldn't. I graduate in December 2017 and got a pro-rec from the last board. The earliest I can go to OCS is in about 10 months. As of now, you can apply a year out from graduating. I've seen a couple of people on this site do the same as I did with no issue.

I think they filter it by recruiting districts. All kits get reviewed at Naval Recruiting Command (NRC) and then get sent down to the various Naval Recruiting Districts (NRDs) which then get sent down to the processors, then to the recruiters, and finally to us. I think it ultimately depends on...

    23 JAN 17 Pilot/NFO Board

I think last year's February board had about a two day wait, which is pretty good. The recent news about quick turnover rates for OCS dates may help too.

    Interesting news about NROTC Scholarships...

Thanks for the detailed rundown of the selection rates. It's good that they're revamping their ways, but they need to maybe not emphasize the Calc/Physics requirements as much. Yes, it's important. Especially if they're looking for STEM majors to begin with. But some college-programmers choose...

    Interesting news about NROTC Scholarships...

Interesting information, a buddy of mine picked up one of the 20 available 2 year scholarships. He definitely earned it. Unfortunately for me, I was a tier III major that had to be booted due to not picking up advanced standing. Good to know that they're finally changing the quotas. My friends...

    (Opinion) AFROTC vs. PLC Air

Take the PLC contract and commit to it. I was in a similar situation before I entered college. The Army gave me a 3.5-year ROTC scholarship during my senior of high school, but I declined and went the Navy ROTC route as a non-contract midshipmen in hopes of picking up something. (Didn't pick up...

    23 JAN 17 Pilot/NFO Board

That's weird, but at least they didn't tell you no! I'm hoping they're doing this because they'll be needing to fill a lot of quotas for our board. Or they expect not many applying due to the holidays or something.

    14 NOV 16 Pilot/NFO Board

Feb. 2016 had about 116 applicants May 2016 had 146 applicants, but didn't accept many. They realized that they needed more people so that held a board two months after May. The July 2016 board had about 87 pilot applicants. 72 were selected. Source: this website haha

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

The test is adaptive, so if you guess and get it wrong then it could hurt you. Each question should get harder if you get it right until you reach your "ceiling" when it comes to your knowledge on the subject. If you run out of time, it could be a good or bad sign. If it cuts you off really...

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

Kinda off topic, but I was wondering... Since pilot/NFO selection rates were pretty high over thr past year, do you think selection rates are going to tank within the next two years? Or have selection rates for pilot/NFO been consistent in the past?

    Dropped from NROTC

Awesome, thank you for the last tip! Didn't even know about that. I did take the astb before and scored 46OAR and a 5/7/5. For ROTC, that would've gotten me something, but I know OCS is a whole different ball game when it comes to being competitive.

    Dropped from NROTC

When I submitted my application, my gpa was hovering at a 3.07 with a major in business. I completed calc 1 and 2, since it would look better for the board. I maxed my fitness test in all areas besides running, which I still did pretty well in. Aptitude wise, they made me a squad leader and...

    Dropped from NROTC

I appreciate the feedback. The news was definitely a hurt to the ego and a major roadblock on where I want to be. But it makes me more motivated on getting into OCS. I'll be talking to the unit staff and the officer recruiter in a couple of days to get some more information.

    Dropped from NROTC

Hey guys, this is my first post after trying to use the search feature. I was enrolled in NROTC as a college programmer for 2 years until recently getting dropped due to not picking up advanced standing. I was going in to the application process with a pretty positive mindset, since my overall...
