    23 Oct 2016 OCS

In regard to the car debate, Im driving to OCS and Im getting a pretty sweet allowance for the trip. In fact, the allowance is way more then what I actually need to cover the minimum expenses for the trip. Of course, Im sure ill have some misc. expenses on the way - but even then Ill still come...

Feb-March 2016 Rolling SWO Board Thread

Also wondered about this myself. The general consensus appears to involve a listing of available ships/homeports that is distributed in the latter half OCS. Apparently, the class organizes the process of selecting the ships on their own. I suppose this makes the selection process slightly...

    23 Oct 2016 OCS

Its about 2,300 miles away, about a 35 hour trip. Figured it was a great chance to see a ton of states I'd probably never visit otherwise.

    23 Oct 2016 OCS

Just found out I'm going to be in this class, crazy excited! Im driving to Newport from Salt Lake City (gonna be an epic roadtrip). Anyway, Im down for steakhouse the night before for sure.

Just got the call! FINSEL for October 23 class Im still betting that we are all getting our FINSELs for an October class. It appears the 10/2 and 10/23 FINSEL letters are being dispersed in a random rate though, which is understandably annoying. But hang in there guys, we're seeing a lot of...

Feb-March 2016 Rolling SWO Board Thread

My optimistic prediction - most of us will still get an October OCS date. Mostly because the next SWO board is scheduled on 10/24 and it wouldn't make sense to hold another board when they still have a handful of people w/out an OCS date. Also, if you look back on past SWO boards, most...

Feb-March 2016 Rolling SWO Board Thread

Sweet, very useful information. Thanks for posting. Wonder which SWOs will get the Nov or Dec dates. My OR says they usually like to fill all OCS classes with a little of each designation. However, we are the only SWO board people left without an OCS date (UNless you count this upcoming board...

Feb-March 2016 Rolling SWO Board Thread

Did he mean receiving a FINSEL the same month as the OCS date? Or receiving a FINSEL in October for an OCS date at a later time? Oddly enough, both these scenarios suck

    Graduate GPA

Its a combination of the two. I took a few graduate level courses for my job and my OR took the cumulative GPA of each of my transcripts and came up with an average. My advice, make sure your Officer Recruiter is calculating this metric accurately. I've read stories on this forum where...

Bummer to read about all the employment issues. But, there is strength in solidarity if that is any consolation However, considering the recent trends in SWO FINSELs, an October OCS date will be in the future for a good proportion of people. I haven't found any other evidence to suggest an...

Feb-March 2016 Rolling SWO Board Thread

Yeah the back up appears to be hitting the SWO community pretty bad. December SWOs just recently rec'vd their FINSELs (6 month wait). This in stark contrast with other designations that have reported receiving their FINSELs two to three months after their respective boards.

    Final Select Purgatory

Very interesting and unusual situation. Thanks for sharing. Makes me think there is some sort of queue or waiting list hidden away in NRD . There must be a reason why they picked your application, in your region, and in your designation. Seems to methodical and exact to be a coincidence or an...

Feb-March 2016 Rolling SWO Board Thread

Thanks for sharing that info man. A few other plp have mentioned similar conversations with their ORs...so its nice to have more corroborative information. Having some sense of the OCS timeline is kinda nice. Helps with planning and setting goals (ie fitness, studying, financial, apartment leases)

    Final Select Purgatory

I've gotten the same feedback from my OR. DUIs, arrests, and other related matters result in not rec'ving a FINSEL. He also mentioned not to "change" anything about myself ie tattoos, piercings, and brands. I can also surmise that intentionally or unintentionally omitting information on your...

    OCS

The Pilot designation has one of the most favorable selection rates out there (a healthy 70% I believe). All the other designations have seen their selections rates decrease and thus, the competition for these have intensified. If you're interested in Pilot - I'd say you're applying at the right...

Pro Rec Y April 11 SWO

Yeah I signed paperwork on Tuesday relating to medical record releases, background check, etc. Also, I had my fingerprints taken - which I did in MEPS but apparently they expired. In regard to FINSEL, my recruiter predicted a summer OCS date. However, from my own research, it seems like most...

    Board/Successful Application and College Graduation

Awesome, thanks for sharing the link to the most update appendix b. Quick question - I got a speeding ticket this morning. I was cited for going over the speeding by 10 mph and the fine is only $120. I don't think this will affect me post Pro-Rec Y status, but I did sign "Honor Statements" for...

Yeah, the board evaluates all SWO applications in one day. The results are made available the following day. Usually the Pro-Rec Ys are updated in the system first. The rest are updated whenever they find the time. This is a good gauge in figuring out what the decision was. If your recruiters is...

    SWO RECRUITING OPNOTE (Important)

Very interesting read. I wonder how the board assess applications "holistically" when they usually go through all the applications in one day. My sense of the situation, they probably filter thru apps using OAR/GPA the first time around , and then they use the "holistic" attributes discussed in...

I believe this is where the 34% selection rate for the December board came from. I missed this board by a week, so I was really invested in tracking its progress. With that being said, I echo everyone's optimism for a favorable selection rate this time around.

Thanks for sharing. So the lower SWO selection was not due to FY16? I believe that was the explanation recruiters gave. Is this a sign for a new trend for lower selections for SWO?
  27. V

Feb-March 2016 Rolling SWO Board Thread

Yeah the lower selection rate was a disappointment for everyone. I believe the reason given was that the board was held near of FY 2015. Also, some have speculated that the recent rise of NPQ Pilot selectees being designated to SWO have filled prematurely filled the billets available. Might be...

Turning Down OCS for Another Branch & Your Record

Turning Down OCS for Another Branch & Your Record

Definitely a relief, thanks sharing your insight. My biggest reservation about Army OCS is the uncertainty relating to your job. The Navy is nice because you apply for the job that you want. If it doesn't work out, well you can always apply again.

Applying to Multiple Branches at once

Hey man, I applied to Army OCS and Navy OCS. It is definitely possible. Some people gotten negative feedback from other recruiters form different branches, so I get the sense it depends on the recruiters temperament, personality, etc.
