    NEWS Key Bridge - Baltimore

Ship handling was about the only interesting thing about working on the bridge of a CVN. My Captain was a master ship handler so we all learned a lot. Thx Buzz. Since the CVN screws rotate in both directions (outboard both sides) we remembered with a backing bell the “deeper blade” would pull...

    NEWS Key Bridge - Baltimore

As I recall the pivot point moves fully aft in high power reverse, little you can do besides drop the anchor. Seems basic ORM would require a tug ivo the bridge. The severity axis is easy (and realized) but the proba axis is higher than most realize. Plenty of examples amd videos of cargo...

    Motorcyles and Scooters, Oh My!

Nice! I went with the induction jacket, gtx adv boots, fifty 2 jeans, carlsbad pants, and rally airbag vest. Buy once cry once… and i did cry…. but it is great gear that I have thrashed on the trails here the last 6 months and won’t need to replace for quite awhile.

    Motorcyles and Scooters, Oh My!

Been going down this path the last year. I’d recommend something dual sport or ADV oriented and easy to work on and reliable. The ability to get off the beaten path/paved roads really opens things up and is alot more enjoyable for me at least. My upgraded DR650 is my daily driver in Oahu...

    Top Gun 2

Great show, exceeded expectations. I think the production team threaded the nostalgia needle nearly perfectly for us old dudes who saw the original in theater as a kid. Flying scenes are incredible. Characters have some depth, especially when compared to TG1. Not the biggest TC fan but the...

    Which watch?

Entertaining read. Plenty of patches come through the school house I taught at - never noticed any IWCs but may have missed them. https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/tom-cruise-pilots-fighter-jets-while-wearing-a-familiar-porsche-design-chronograph-in-top-gun-maveri

    Which watch?

Congrats, that’s a stunner! Concur with Chuck, Tudors current line up has a lot of horology for the price. Pictures just don’t do the watch justice, you must see them in person. Just make sure your credit card warmed up if you look at one.

    Which watch?

Can’t disagree. I suppose after wearing my Bremont so much I’m accustomed to thicker watches. It does wear much lighter and thinner feeling on leather if you ever reconsider.

    Which watch?

For those looking at the GMT Master II take a look at the Tudor Black Bay GMT. I’d argue just as much functionality without the Rolex baggage. I prefer the 5 digit gmt look as well, the numbers on the ceramic GMT look comically out of proportion to me. Mine is +/- .7 sec, picked up in like...

My addition to the perfect 4 watch collection-GMT, dive, chrono, and beater bases well covered. The 3 nice ones will go to my 3 kids someday. 41mm Sub is perfection btw. Fortunate enough to get hooked up with an AD. Say what you will about Rolex but this machine nears perfection. SKX just...

    Bonhomme Richard fire

Standby for safety stand downs coming for all ships, particually big decks in the yards. Can't help but imagine this scenario with a CVN instead of a Gator... USS Last Ship conducted mid patrol CMAV in FDNF with weaps and gas onboard. Work scope was very limited but the risk is always...

TAO, A. Strike O, or A. Air Ops

I am not mixing up jobs, trust me. I did, however, lose the context of your comment of "There's one O-3 Aviator billet on CSG staff to speak for aviation issues." Upon rereading it sober it is clear you were referencing LT billet availability to the OP vice the "only 1 aviator speaking for...

TAO, A. Strike O, or A. Air Ops

    - CG CO's work for the CSG. Plenty of SWO politics involved in scheduling/managing HRU/escorts, always good for a chuckle. I occasionally feel sorry for the LT DESRON OPSO who has nothing between her, her Commo/DCommo and the CG COs but only a little... - Lots of aviators in my CSG: N00...

    Transoceanic HF Use

There was a PPC in my first P-3 squadron whose solution to a botched flight plan and resultant oceanic clearance denial was to attempt to chop "due regard" to cross the pond (talking to no one). Fortunately her crew talked her out of it... I suspect all P-3 NFOs have passed PTAPTPs via...

If you are talking about the VP-10/VP-9 shots those were SLAMs, sans ER. We had moderate success in VP-10. VP-9 amd Combat Bob, not as much. Always chcuckled when I heard the sea story is about the VP-9 crew that locked onto the sun. Missle tried its best but didn’t make it...

    Retirement: BRS/High 3

Anyone run the math look for legacy vs BRS with service of longer than 20yrs? Say O5 over 25 or O6 over 30. The percentage and absolute gap widen quickly. Perhaps I am simply stating the obvious here but I assume some folks at less than 12 years have a pretty good idea if they are tracking to...

    Retirement: BRS/High 3

Don’t forget that you are not able to pull money out of TSP penalty free until you are 59.5 while your pension starts the day you retire. Also, with TSP you have a more significant portion of your .gov retirement compensation exposed to market risk. Finally, your pension is (somewhat)...

I watched the tail fall off of a 53 in Sig back in 02 after a hard landing/bounce back into the air. Can confirm it was no bueno. Parts flying everywhere and people scurrying out of the dying helo as it beat itself to death on the ground.
