A LCDR in the P-3 community once told me that he's never been on a ship at any point in his career because he spent his dissassociated sea tour on a shore based staff. Is that common? I thought that especially for the land based communities you have to go to sea for your disassociated tour?

Only if you have poor form. If you have decent form, you’ll be fine. Don’t overthink it, just make sure you’re doing push ups and sit ups according to navy standards.

There’s nothing you can do now to train for it specifically. It’s meant to be a “do you really want to be here” sort of moment. It’s not that bad, just focus on making sure you’re physically fit.

If you fail enough times you will be kicked out eventually. When I was there you would get kicked out if you failed it three times, but YMMV. I would obviously plan on passing the first time.
