T-45A on "NCIS" this Tuesday Night

The character in the show was stationed in Pax River and was scheduled to complete all of flight school in 3 months. Apparently the producers are not familiar with a little thing called Google.

    PRK in Baltimore/DC?

I would check out the clinic at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. They can stop wars, broker middle-east peace, close prisons, cure diseases, save banks, fix the housing crisis, revive the economy, and run car companies. I'm sure they can do something as simple as eye surgery.

What he said (and it's called a treatment zone or optical zone :)) Nugget: are you having treatment zone issues?

Best ways to locate good PRK surgeons (Orlando, FL)?

It's a bit out of your 120 mile range, but you might want to check out Emory in Atlanta; I've heard good things about them. http://www.eyecenter.emory.edu/

    Starbursting after PRK

8mm plus transition zone, or 8mm including transition zone? What device did they use to measure your pupils? My doc had done over 15,000 PRK and performed extensive trials for VISX. Unfortunately, it only takes one small mistake. Hopefully, it will go away over time as it does for many...

    Starbursting after PRK

Is this due to the fact that pilots somehow have superior outcomes, or that they just don't tell anyone about their complications? -- I would guess the latter. Interesting is not exactly the word I used. The bottom line is that unless the starbursts are ridiculously bad, they will not be...

    PRK Consultation

Wavefront has been around for quite a while and is quite common. It has been available in the U.S. for at least five years and in Canada and Europe for longer than that. It actually comes from the field of astrophysics and was developed to repair the Hubble telescope. Recently in the...

    Not correctable to 20/20

Just to be clear, I am not suggesting that you 'cheat'. While there may be something in Appendix 2348df-1 Section 12390-ddfhsa9r.1238 of some NOMI/NAMI pub, I have never seen or heard of wetting eye drops being disqualifying. It is common for people who have had PRK to experience dry eyes, yet...

"Hey doc, I need to run to the head real quick" Go to head, go into stall, put in eye drops, take a dump (or at least stay in the stall for 5 minutes), go pass eye exam. (Don't use an eye drop gel as a residue might still be in your eyes) Do not ask a question for which you do not want an...

Go see Dr. Steve Schallhorn (http://us.opticalexpress.com/LASIK/dr-steve-schallhorn.html). If you're anywhere near San Diego, it's pretty much a no-brainer. Also look at the link for Dr. Mitch Brown (http://us.opticalexpress.com/laser-eye-surgery/dr-mitchell-c-brown.html). I know them...

I was wondering if they needed to go early because of the fireworks during the last half of the National Anthem. And apparently the words have been changed from "gave proof through the night" to "gave proof to the night". I've never understood how people can screw up the National Anthem -- I...

    Age waiver thread

I was in the CEC Collegiate Program (it's basically BDCP), went to OCS, then after about 2 years as a CEC officer got accepted to flight school. I needed an age waiver and they counted the time I was in the BDCP towards that waiver. Just wondering if someone in Lights situation could apply...

AD to IRR to AD - impact on lineal number

Wondering if anyone knows... If an officer leaves Active Duty for a couple years, is in the IRR during that time, then returns to Active Duty, is there an adjustment made to their lineal number and/or promotion timing? Thanks.

    Where to get PRK

Emory Vision in Atlanta has a pretty good reputation. Birmingham also has some decent doctors. I couldn't find any docs that I really felt comfortable with in Pensacola (although that was a few years ago). Don't rule out traveling to find the right doc. In my experience, Navy docs won't...

Fallen Angels - Admin Seps for all?

Not paying them $100K+ a year :) Actually, I don't think their retention numbers are down. I think it's a matter of not recruiting enough CE's 4-5 years ago to keep up with the current demand that the Navy is placing on the CEC and the Seabees. I may be wrong, but this has been my impression.

Fallen Angels - Admin Seps for all?

A few months back the CEC was throwing wads of cash at their JO's to get them to stay in beyond 4 years. If they are still in the same situation, it seems that anyone with the right degree would have a fairly good chance of a redes to 5100. CEC is one of the best deals in the military.

USS Lincoln CVN-72 CQ Det 12-08

Not really, I'm well aware that MB has been around a while and I have picked up pieces of his story throughout AW. I was just wondering if he had actually posted the story in a anywhere so that I didn't have to scan the 4,698 posts he's made over that last couple years.

    Shoulder surgery

Is your OSO a doctor? I doubt it, and I'm pretty sure it's not his job to make medical decisions. If you are otherwise qualified, what he should be doing is helping you do whatever is necessary in order to apply for a waiver. I had two ankle surgeries (one scope, one reconstruction - on the...

    Arizona PRK Doctors

Three days for me (both times I had surgery). San Diego is a really cool town, but just keep in mind the reason for your trip. Don't do anything that might even have the remote possibility of slowing down the healing process. (I went to London to get my second surgery and I spent 4 of my 5...

    Attrition to NPQ...is this possible?

My experience was that there was a difference in how attrites were treated. (This doesn't necessarily mean that they were given preference in their follow-on orders, but there did seem to be a hierarchy in how they were treated on a personal level, and, at times, on how much the command was...

Possible Shin splints or poor running technique?

I struggled with what I was told were shin splints during college. The athletic trainers at school had me doing ice and heat and taping my shins for practice (felt like I was in a cast). The pain and the "cast" created a very awkward running style that eventually led to other injuries that...

Prince William Receives his Wings, learns what FACIT means

From what I have read, his eyesight is pretty bad and the age limit for incoming RAF pilots is 23. The waiver comment was a joke - I doubt he had much trouble with getting those issues overlooked.

Is "they" your command or NAMI? I know that a few years ago some commands were letting Studs go get remeasured if they travelled on their own dime. Pipeline Cut

Just go find a nearby playground, hang upside-down on the monkey bars, then let go and land on your head. That should compress your spine at least 1/3 of an inch. Or maybe just shave your head and ask if you can be measured naked - your hair, flight suit and underwear are probably 1/3 inch.

    PRK countdown...

The doc forgot to measure my dilated pupil size prior to surgery. My pupils are about 7.5 mm in diameter, the laser he used could only treat 5.5 mm. Makes for bad night vision. It is quite a bizarre story in that once I figured out what the problem was, I called him to talk about it. He...

    PRK for thin corneas

I know that part of the issue is your pre-op perscription. The worse your eyes are, the more corneal tissue they will need to remove. Also there is a pretty large variance with lasers. Some are a lot better at preserving corneal tissue than others. If you know your current prescription, and...
