One of my best days flying in the Navy. We took 4 slicked off Echos when I was a JO. Fought an F-15 in the morning and an F-16 in the afternoon. You don’t know what you are flying against until you hit the merge. I wanted to repeat that for my JO’s when I was Skipper, but unfortunately canceled...

USN Showdown between Super Hornet and F-35

Your first point is to sell more Rhinos to I get countries. Good for Boeing’s bottom line and has a downstream effect for the Navy (I.e. extra funding/ testing for Rhino capes). But the Navy shouldn’t give a shit about ski ramps for its own purposes, hence my first reply. For your second point...

Is greasing the groove really the best way to increase pushups?

Best way to get better at push-ups is...more push-ups. Greasing the groove is a method to build volume without overtraining. But you still need to max effort a couple of times a week as well.

Research on egress training - participants needed!

good survey for an interesting topic. Two thoughts: First is I don’t think you need to be a strong swimmer, you just need to not freak out when you swallow a little water or go past what you think is running out of breath. I remember listening to a SEAL talk at school about the knot tying...

    No more CQs?

That is intriguing. I wonder how much a “slick” E-2 (cockpit and engines) would cost. Not exactly apples to apples, but on my IA in U-28’s; the 319th had a bunch of PC-12’s that they trained new pilots in before they flew the mission birds.

    IKE Double Pump

This would have been me (or maybe still is). My biggest career regret will always be pulling my package from Topgun. However, if I had gone to the staff, I would probably be an arrogant prick right now because the amount of sunshine I had blown up my wahoo when I was a JO. I am thankful I...

Two deployments was always the plan. But the fact that we are about to lose the holidays is a surprise. So, yeah, this isn’t going to sit well when I update the squadron on Monday with a different schedule than what we have talked about for the last three years.

And the PRT changes yet again

I did a mock PRT based on USNA’s version a month ago. Did 60 cadence pushups, rest, 4:20 plank, rest, sub-7 min 2k. Plank was definitely more challenging after the Pushups, but still manageable. Row was about a 90% effort.

    NEWS AI versus F-16 Pilot

Overall I was impressed with the study. We do a fair job on training to BFM in the Navy. The argument that the dogfight is dead is for another debate, however, BFM is a great trainer to understand your energy state in relation to the enemy and to exercise your situational awareness in a 3D...

Should I stay or should I go? Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying And Love HSC.

If you ran an F-14 into an S-3 you could hammer out the damage. My composite aileron cost $220k and had to be replaced after a crunch. It will be even worse for an F-35. Not a great reason, but it’s a reason.

I thought it was a 5-bird Det with an additional 2 on a support ship? And I believe the CVN CO is going to own them, which is probably a good thing.
