    Final Select Purgatory

Checking out!!!! After being initially selected in the September 2014 IDC Board, I have finally received my Final Select. 06SEP2015 Class it for sure is. :-) To all who are in purgatory here, just know that there is light at the end of your very long tunnel.

Lol. Bill pay was the reason I didn't switch right away when we were offered the signup in bootcamp. It would be best if you could do it before, but if you can't just know that you'll still be able to afterwards.

Yes. I used Wells Fargo for almost my first two years in the military. (I had been with them before joining.) I then switched to Navy Fed. I liked Wells Fargo quite a bit, but Navy Fed is so much better. I absolutely wish I had switched sooner. (Also, just a bonus, Navy Fed is a credit union as...

    Female applicants and haircuts

You're right. I was thinking actual shaved. You can definitely have it cut very short. You just couldn't have part of your head that way and part not. If you let the undergrowth grow out just so that it's long enough to pin to the back of your head with bobby pins, you'll be fine. It doesn't all...

    Female applicants and haircuts

Also, females are not allowed to have their heads shaved. Though this is specifically referring to the whole head, it would also apply to any part of the head. Beyond that, the "faddish" rule is what would apply.
  8. PettyOfficerCJ

    Female applicants and haircuts

I would have to see the cut to know, but Navy regs stipulate that a hairstyle cannot appear "faddish". For a female, if it can be seen that part of your hair is shaved off, then that would definitely be out of regs.

Issued uniforms will make up the bulk of that cost. Unless you're currently enlisted and bring some items that could crossover (ie. I'm bringing my NWU parka and fleece. It's quite expensive. I'm in Hawaii so mine is pretty much brand new still.), you won't be able to bring anything that would...

    OCS June IDC Board?

I was select for IW during the September 2014 IDC Board. In another week or two, I should have my orders to the 06SEP2015 OCS Class. You just never know with IDC.

    06 SEP 2015 OCS Class

You've only been waiting a few weeks then. Definitely give it more time. Being a pilot, I could see you having orders before the end of the summer even though they just recently got your transcripts. Hope that helps!

    06 SEP 2015 OCS Class

It took me a couple months to finalize my medical stuff so that added to the time. Have you gotten your medical "ok" for OCS? Honestly, you got picked up for pilot so you may even have actual orders by the end of this month. No promises, but you guys go fast. I was selected last Sept for IW...

    Final Select Purgatory

I thought that I remembered the 3rd class one only being 25, but it could have been 50. It's not far either way.

For the qual, you just have to complete the distance. You can use any stroke you want. You can even doggy paddle if you so choose. I've seen people pass the 3rd class swim call swimming in such a way that if they were anywhere else a lifeguard would jump in to save them. lol

You sound like a sailor already ;) Once, during a day of training, I asked a Chief if we were allowed to have coffee. She looked slightly horrified that I would even ask. She just glared at me and solemnly said "This is the Navy. Why would you even ask that question?" Apparently no true...

You never know what's going on though. We felt pretty bad after we found out at bootcamp that a fellow booter who we'd just concluded was a baby actually kept breaking out into crying spells because his new baby had just died. The family didn't know any better and didn't send a Red Cross...

    January 2016 IDC Board

*As of Monday, they didn't have confirmation on when exactly the board would happen, but they had heard nothing about January. So, it could or could not end up being in January.

    January 2016 IDC Board

I also contacted the processors due to the fact that I'm helping someone submit their package. The fleet processors office told me that they are preparing for a fall board. They had not been informed of any 2016 boards.

IDBC: New 3-Week Course for New IDC Accessions

usnavymie hit the mark with his post. Increased collaboration is becoming an even more important and integral part of the IDC. It is not just the IDC community within the Navy, but it is also the Intelligence Community as a whole. The push is for the CIA, NSA, FBI, NGA, (continue with all the...

IDBC: New 3-Week Course for New IDC Accessions

Here is the information that I promised. Some of the IW Officers at my command came to me with this information when it was passed down to the command. I also found an article that was published about it online. This will be for all new accessions in paygrades O1-O4 (also will probably include...

Hello to all who join this class. I know it's somewhat early, but, since I've been given verbals for this class, I decided to go ahead and start a thread for it. I should have my FINSEL soon and hopefully will be staying in this class. Here's to a summer of getting ready!

    Automobile to Newport?

If it's just for OCS, I wouldn't see why you couldn't use someone else's car. After all, you could rent a car if you wanted and would still be reimbursed at least the mileage. At least, that's how it works for other travel situations. If it's for PCSing, the Navy will not ship a car for you...

OCS Active Duty Navy to OCS

Just realized that I didn't answer one of your questions and, to be honest, I don't know. As this course is also in Dam Neck, I could see them letting you actually go ahead and pcs there. You'll for sure be in Dam Neck longer than 6 months with all this. I don't have an actual answer on that...

OCS Active Duty Navy to OCS

It's no problem :) Glad to help. Once I have access to my computer (doing this on my phone), I'll type up the actual message info that's being passed down (as well as a recent article that just came out on it.) It will not replace any of the original specialized schools. It's something that we...

You're right. He is not an 1810......Sorry, HawaiiIDC ignore the stuff about for sure going to a NIOC. :) So, this Virginia training is a brand new thing. The officers in my command came to me with the notification that had been sent out to IDC commands. Starting in October, all IDC new...

And yes, your BAH will continue. They won't stop supporting your family. It's kind of similar to sailors who get sent to do aircrew training or any other specialized school.

OCS Active Duty Navy to OCS

I talked to a couple former CTs just turned IW ensigns. As IW, you will not be PCSing until after training in Rhode Island and Pensacola (oh and now we will be adding 3 weeks in Virginia to all that). While at Pensacola, we will receive permanent orders to one of the 5 Centers of Excellence...

    Final Select Purgatory

Once you're in the service, you will be given plenty of chances to update information that would pertain to your clearance. You have to keep information current as long as you hold the clearance, so get used to it. Also, once you have the TS, you will still have to get specific clearance to work...

Looking for a female perspective on OCS

ps: If you don't have someone to show you how to make one, YouTube it. Also, if for some reason they do take away your mesh one from you, you will at least know how to make one and can just use a sock or other piece of material. The mesh bun is best though because you can actually stick pins...

Looking for a female perspective on OCS

I haven't been through yet and I plan on cutting my hair before I go, but I do currently have a bun in uniform. Learn to make a sock bun! It's the most secure and best looking. I actually use this mesh "donut" thing that you can get at a lot of places. I got mine at H & M. Claire's has them...

    Final Select Purgatory

I don't know where you would find them, but I have verbals that I'm in the 06SEP class. It seems like one gets scheduled every three weeks. This may not be the best information, but it might help give you a little bit of an idea. Hope that helps!

    March 2015 IDC Board

That's why I'm thankful that I enlisted. I simply just wanted to work for the Navy while I continued to pursue Navy OCS. I knew I was good with language and went with that. I had no idea that I had just gotten myself into the IDC, but I'm very glad I did!

    March 2015 IDC Board

It may make only a little difference, but already holding one is still a more sure thing than being deemed eligible. In bootcamp, my division had 2 females that had to be removed from the cryptology rating. They had been found in the initial screening to be found eligible for the appropriate...

    March 2015 IDC Board

This is very true. Already having a clearance is also a definite advantage. My case was somewhat unusual, I suppose. My package was approved and submitted by my command the same week I dropped to my first shop. I had no actual IDC work experience to include. I was thinking though more about...

    March 2015 IDC Board

I was selected for IW, and I definitely did not have calculus or high level physics (did have lower level though) in college. I definitely do not qualify as someone who is truly a "STEM" person though I do now work in cryptology. You can have other things to make up for it. This is a fact since...

Looking for a female perspective on OCS

As a female currently in the Navy, I can tell you that these shirts are undershirts, and you'll have to get "crew neck" white shirts from the men's department. The edging on the neck should be about half an inch to an inch. Personally, I found a package of nice ones at a Jockey outlet store for...

    Final Select Purgatory

Glad to know I'm not the only one in this situation! I keep having to resubmit medical documents due to mistakes that were made on the original forms when the doctor filled them out. At least it looks like I won't go in February (which I'm glad for because I have a certification that I need to...
