Coast Guard DCIO (Direct Commission Intelligence Officer)

I hear ya. Here's the challanges i'm facing. It took almost 3 years to achieve full TS/SCI adjudication and now there are additional requirements being forced upon reserve units for accounts and visiting the NIOC's. With these delays, i'll be putting on O3 before I can even go to my NIOC to...

Wonder if they would do this for other communities, especially CWO.

    FY 18 IWC DCO BOARD

The issue here is that people that get the CISSP without experience is the issue. At the end of the day, it's a good way to discriminate between two individuals with similar experience. While it may require memorization, there are certain aspects of the certification that do require analytical...

    FY 18 IWC DCO BOARD

You can't even get the CISSP without significant work experience (at least the full designation). I had 5 years right when I passed it and even then, ISC2 scrutinized every position that I listed in my application. Also, I got my CISSP my second drill weekend. I applied just with my Sec+.

    FY 17 IDC DCO BOARD

Very true, I applied as Intel, IP and IW (in that order), and got picked up for IW. Here are the descriptions of each designator. Hopefully clears up any confusion: 1815 - Crypto: https://www.navy.com/careers/inform...ptologic-warfare.html#ft-key-responsibilities 1825 - IP -...

    FY 17 IDC DCO BOARD

I applied 3 times before I was picked up, so don't feel discouraged going through the process again. For stats: First, which designators are you applying for? Second, stats like bachelors, work experience, any professional certifications? Things like that. If you scroll through previous...

I highly recommend it. But you also need to show improvement from the last application to the board. Feel free to send over your stats and credentials.

    FY 17 IDC DCO BOARD

There is really no set of questions to prepare/study. It's more discussion based, where the unit leadership tries to get a better understanding of you as a person, leadership traits and how you approach issues and problems. They already know you're technically savvy but being an officer also...
  19. Crippy011

    FY 17 IDC DCO BOARD

There are many factors that go into selection. It's all dependent on where there are openings for new JO's as well as what designator you're applying/selected for. Your recruiter would have more info on that than I would. During my local board interviews, they usually bring in several people at...
  20. Crippy011

    FY 17 IDC DCO BOARD

What is the unit location that you interviewed at? I'm assuming its in the DC/Baltimore area (has the lowest selection rates due to the numerous individuals involved in Intel/IW already in DC/Baltimore and the supply is significantly higher than demand). I got picked up my third time with my...

    FY 17 IDC DCO BOARD

@RUFiO181 Have the numbers for the selections per designator been released yet?
  23. Crippy011

    FY 17 IDC DCO BOARD

Understandable, The board looks at many different factors but if there is a specific resource need at that unit which you can fill, that gets taken into consideration as well and can often times be the detail that gets you a pro-rec.
  24. Crippy011

    FY 17 IDC DCO BOARD

Yea, age does seem to be a factor, however, you would be able to do 20 years of service before meeting mandatory retirement age so I don't see that as being a big issue. What's your degrees in? Honestly, you're definitely competitive for Intel. I'm curious to know which unit you interviewed with.

    FY 17 IDC DCO BOARD

Definitely belay my last. I'm not sure if anyone would or would not be there. Are you working with a recruiter or career counselor? They should be able to direct you/schedule your interviews with fellow community officers. @NavyOffRec, could you provide some more guidance here?

    FY 17 IDC DCO BOARD

I've had a LCDR on the phone but the unit XO and CO in the room itself. Having a board over the phone isn't unusual but its uncommon. I highly recommend being in person.

Reserves. What's strange is that I as well as another individual got our FINSEL's in under 3 months of PROREC and we're both non-priors. This particular individual in the previous post as well as another who is prior service aren't being commissioned until next fiscal year, which makes me...

    Final Select Purgatory

That's really interesting/weird. I'm talking to another guy who was pro rec IWC in January and he's still waiting for his FINSEL's. What really surprises me is that he's non-prior service too. As I say, gotta love the hurry up and wait.

    FY 17 IDC DCO BOARD

Ah, good ole NRD Seattle. I started my commission pursuit out there before transferring to NRD Chicago. In regards to the glasses, if you make it through MEPS, you're good. If not, the Navy's medical corps will send you a N3M letter that states you need to see a outside doctor who will do a...

    FY 17 IDC DCO BOARD

That's great to hear (switching over to flight). Hopefully your documents come in soon.

    Final Select Purgatory

@SWOMan That's really surprising to hear. Probably the SWO community health is looking good so NRC must be taking their time to assigning bullets. There's another individual, prior service, who isn't being commissioned till October since the Meterology designator billets are 'healthy'.

FY16 IDC DCO Board (Jan 16)

Thanks so much for asking. That's a relief as my travel schedule is packed through the next 4 weeks, and I was a bit concerned about finding an open date for commissioning if needed. 90 days should be no problem, though. Anytime. I'm in the same boat as well.
  42. Crippy011

FY16 IDC DCO Board (Jan 16)

Great, thanks. I thought I remembered my recruiter saying 30 days, but perhaps he misspoke. Will double check. 90 days would certainly be preferable on my end due to travel. Confirmed with my OR. You have 90 days starting from when the FINSEL is dated to commission.

FY16 IDC DCO Board (Jan 16)

I also had to resubmit an updated RRA (something about processing a billet with my updated information). Still waiting on my FINSEL. My processor is currently on leave till Monday but I was planning on giving my OR a call regardless. Hopefully he has some good news.
