    FY18 STA-21 Applicants

Consider applyng for CECP if you are within 18 months of graduation. Talk to your local officer recruiter to get more information. For those of you that didn't make it, look at the score sheet I posted to this forum and complete the items on that list. They WILL get you selected.

It's the same criteria for a MIDN. IE: Tier of Major, GPA, FITREPS, PRT Scores, etc... Basically, you are a MIDN for admin purposes. You will compete based on class rank just like the MIDN. You are not treated any different.

    FY18 STA-21 Applicants

It's an amazing opportunity all around. It's all what you make of it. Being an officer is exciting, no matter the designator. Good luck in your application!

I am a core select. I go to a non-nuke school. They won't necessarily FORCE you to be a nuke, but you will have to go through service assignment. Service assignment typically comes back nuke if you are qualified for the job. If you're a non-technical major with marginal Calculus and Physics...

    FY18 STA-21 Applicants

When we were briefed at NSI we were given statistics and details about the STA-21 drops over the two classes prior to our selection class. There were 5 drops. Only a few were academic and the rest were drug related. All of the drops were nuclear sailors. With increased volume of selection will...

    FY18 STA-21 Applicants

I recognize and respect your concern. Changing your emphasis will be tough. I wrote my entire package to be geared around becoming a CEC officer. The board chose me to be URL, knowing good and well that I did NOT want to be one. Remember that this is a graded and scored package. You could truly...

    FY18 STA-21 Applicants

No, I actually changed my name in 2013. Most of my awards were tied to my previous name. The awards are tied to your SSN, no worries!

    FY18 STA-21 Applicants

Do you want to be a Navy Officer or an Oceano? Sometimes we have to suppress what we really want when we hear the call to serve. I had to swallow a large rectangular pill when I found out I was a CORE. But honestly it made me examine my intentions. Ultimately I chose to be an Officer first, my...

    FY18 STA-21 Applicants

I got this information from NETFOCUS. When I was applying in 2016 NETFOCUS accidentally allowed us access to the “reports” tab. This tab allowed us to run administrative reports that only the board should be allowed to see. In this tab we could access the score report sheets. The score sheets...
  12. brysonkgoforth

    FY18 STA-21 Applicants

Unless they open up the reports tab in NETFOCUS, you won't be able to access the score sheet. I've attached my recreated version to this post. Your ACT score should be plenty, but always aim for the stars. You didn't answer my question about the associate degree.
  13. brysonkgoforth

    FY18 STA-21 Applicants

Crush the SAT/ACT! Do you have an associate degree? That is also very important to complete. The CEC select for each FY will typically be your highest qualified applicant in the ENTIRE STA-21 process. The SAT and ACT score contributes the most points (40 of 92) to the objective portion of your...

Call and talk to Ed Straten at the STA-21 Office. You should submit for the school you intend to attend. They will be writing you orders to that school. Are you a Nuke? If so, what schools are you considering?

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

You'll be authorized leave on the front and tail end of NSI. I maxed mine out on both occasions. There's really no need to take leave at NROTC unless you leave the 250 mile radius, so take it while you can. You'll have plenty of time off, unless you're in an NROTC that makes you report all of...

Now that is funny! Tennessee houses a city named Millington. Millington is home of Navy Personnel Command. Navy Personnel Command releases message traffic. That's why he made the reference to Tennessee.

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

Some of the information on the OTCN website is good, but most of it is outdated. We brought it up during exit reviews. But it looks like they haven't changed much. It's kind of sad how much attention STA 21 doesn't get. It feels like a collateral duty for the OTCN staff since they don't have...
  21. brysonkgoforth

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

No, that isn't what is in the letter at all. The letter is generic and states that you're still a "conditional selectee." It's a congratulatory letter. Also: http://www.ocs.navy.mil/nsi_uniform.html Read that. It states "If you do not already own uniforms listed on the NSI Uniform Issue list...

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

NSI will differ from class to class. Remember it's only hosted once a year, so there is no set way for it to operate. This being true, your class officer and class chief will have a major influence in what they require you to buy. I will tell you this from my experience. None of us were required...

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

The board results has to make its way through the "chop chain." A majority of this time it will sit at legal awaiting legal adjudication. They want to make sure the proposed selectees haven't been convicted a felony between A and B. This is true of all boards. The same processes are in place. =[

This will forever effect you because it will affect the sailors you lead. Don't forget where you came from! Even if you become an O one day, you were ALWAYS a junior enlisted sailor at one point in your life. You are NEVER above what affects your sailors. This rate-title drop has been in...

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

My package data went missing on 18SEP, yes. No, they didn't talk about the board process at all at NSI. I had the privilege of viewing the REPORT tab last year during the application process. This was accidentally released to the applicants, allowing us to run the same reports the board does...

Drink that beer responsibly! =] It's perfectly normal to feel this way. I remember the feeling like it was yesterday. I checked my NETFOCUS daily. Obsession with this program is part of being dedicated to it.
  30. brysonkgoforth

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

Mine didn't change until it read 18SEP. Don't sweat this week. Watch it next week. READ LAST YEAR'S FORUMS!!!!

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

Friday because the board has to edit your NETFOCUS account so that they can generate the NAVADMIN report. Doubt the board is done until next week. The dates you're seeing is probably for the crunch zone report. Don't sweat until next Friday.
  32. brysonkgoforth

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

Keep watching that date. If it's a Friday that ends up being your last updated then it's a good thing.

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

When does the second half of your fall semester end? You won't class up until February, so as long as you aren't taking classes then, I would say it'd be a non-issue. Good luck in your studies!
  34. brysonkgoforth

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

There had better be a LOT of names from this forum on that NAVADMIN in October! If not, make sure and reach out to those who have been selected and find out what you may be missing. This program isn't rocket science, but it's still not easy. Good luck everyone! I can't wait until the list is...

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

Lol ok. That is the old PO Indoc course name. It doesn't exist any more. Most of that information in the selectee/alternate page is garbage. They don't do a stellar job of keeping up with updates. If you have any specific questions about what to prepare for, you should ask them here or call the...

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

If you don't get picked up then you must suck at interviews, be a liar, otherwise I quit. If you're for real then there is NO WAY you won't be on the list. For those of you reading the list of courses he's completed....GET THERE! Good luck to everyone! Chief season is no joke....
  39. brysonkgoforth

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

Have you taken calculus and or physics? I would work on those courses first! Stats look very impressive. Hopefully we see your name on that Navadmin!

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

Well I'll go through what part of season I can...I have the next 3 weeks off after finals next week. So I know where I'll be...I definitely will get paid. They can tell from your PSR that you are in STA-21. My UIC and duty station are both tied to the program. Another one of my friends from...

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

Your initial application will be reviewed and checked for disqualifiers. You would have been notified if you were a disqual. Then it will be scored. You will receive an OBJECTIVE score based on the items you submitted to the board. If you're interested in how the package is scored read my...

No, I've always been an electrical engineering major. I met a Nuke LT who was a finance major. The degree is less pertinent than academic aptitude.

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

You won't actually hear anything from the office. You can see if items were added to your package by checking NETFOCUS or by simply calling. Last year I faxed in an additional document and I called the office to ensure they had received it. In about a week it was in my NETFOCUS. Good luck!

ANY commission is a good commission. Sometimes it's not what about what you WANT to do for your country....it's about what your country NEEDS you to do. It's good to put round blocks in round holes.
  48. brysonkgoforth

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

When I was stationed at Great Lakes I had the opportunity to talk with the NSTC staff who owns the ROTC program for the Navy. They made it very clear to me that this program costs the Navy entirely too much money, and that any designator that isn't Nuke should be very glad to receive a quota...
  49. brysonkgoforth

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

And for those of you thinking that CORE slots allow you to pick your designator, you are sadly mistaken. CORE is another way for the Navy to make more Nukes. I'll be headed to DC this winter to receive my assignment as a Nuke. So instead of 35 selectees you may as well make that 38! LOL It's...

    FY17 STA-21 Applicants

I would like to say that they like it, but it all depends on the candidate. I think it looks best if you have all your ducks in a row. Example- If you're planning on attending University of California Los Angeles and at the time you apply for STA-21 you've already been accepted. This is a good...
