    Platform Smack Talk Forum

Bigworm, E5B allow me to caveat on the AF geak. Wow. I could not keep a straight face. I thought he was joking. I refered to him as "Captain America." His "adolescent I wanna be like Maverick!" attitude was down right funny. I hope I run into him again. I will mock him to his face. I swear...

    Flight Hours

I know C-130 pilots get the most flight time typically. 46s get 1000-1200 hours by the end of their first tour. Jets typically get the fewest of any (like 700 approx). Does anyone know about 53s or hueys? How do pilots in these frames stack up with flight hours after their first tour? Reason...

    IOC before API

I am in "A" Co TBS and I will say that after TBS, there are very few Marines who want to go to IOC period. Even the guys who got infantry are not REALLY excited about it. Good training yes, but a pain in the butt. Many aviators wanted the opportunity when we started but almost no one does now...

    Marine OCS pull-up/sit-up/running?

The armstrong program is the best way I have seen to increase pullups. As far as total physical fitness, try the navy seal workout. Navysealchallenge.com or something like that. It focuses on pullups, situps, pushups, etc. It's an awesome workout. Remember that just because you run a great PFT...

    TBS vs Flight School

That's definately cool. That's what I was hopeing. We are in the thick of TBS right now--7 weeks from the war. I got to thinking the other day, "Can I do this for like 1-2 years more?" I don't mean to sound like a sissy, but I work like between 60 and 100 hours per week. I always have trash to...

    TBS vs Flight School

sounds awesome--and the ". . . you should enjoy flight school much more than TBS. . ." statement makes me glad. Very glad thanks a lot for the gouge.

    TBS vs Flight School

Can someone compare for me the atmosphere at flight school vs TBS. Are the pace and the schedule similar? I here the schedule is lax and the hours are a whole lot better. Is this true? What's a day like?

    Living in Pensacola

Gentlemen: I again need some help. I am currently in "A" Co, TBS. I graduate 12 June and I expect to be at P'cola pretty quick afterwards because I already completed IFS (FIP during college). I'm married and I need to know where to live once I get to P'cola. I am not too familiar with the area...

    Artic Alpha shout out!

The company that was ordered to by the CO because he did not think it was smart to have Marines doing squad live-fires on range (R-5?) --it was a solid sheet of ice. I'm greatful because I don't want some other Lt slipping on the ice (which we all did days previous) and shooting me in the a$$...

    HELP-- Corpus or P'Cola?

"Where did you get 80%?" I got it from an HMX pilot while I was on his bird a few weeks ago. So "Poof!" And Rainman, although maybe only at Primary, knows a lot more than I do at this point. But thanx for "busting-my-balls" and bringing to my attention that he is not Plato. No--I'm not dingy...

    HELP-- Corpus or P'Cola?

Rainman--has the ratio really been 60/40 lately? Wow--I thought for sure it would be more like 80 20. But with odds like that. . . hmmmmm. Question. 1. do you think the future of Marine aviation is shaky (like 10-20 years away being largely absorbed by the Navy -- I read things and hear things...

    HELP-- Corpus or P'Cola?

That's June 12 there "Heir Bailey." (I think). I figure like 80% of us will be helos (given the ratio of helos to FW and the fact that there are 2 pilots for every 1 helo). So with those odds, I figure, why move twice? I'll probably end up in FL anyways for helos, and I'll have to learn the...

    SULE I

Back to the topic of the thread, I could teach my little brother (who is 9) to do SULE I. SULE II requires some thought to do it exactly how they want it. The grading is pretty subjective though. One instructor might give you a 80% and another would have given you a 90%. Just pass. Makes no...

    Marine Air contracts

For whoever cares, there are several air contracts in A co now with me who want to go IOC before flight school (Not me). But our CO (who we were talking to one morning at the rifle range) said that there may be 1 slot possibly for IOC after our cycle. I guess slots have been tough to come by...

    HELP-- Corpus or P'Cola?

Gentlemen: I have to submit my preference for primary to our company aviation rep tomorrow and I am still between Corpus Cristy, TX and Pensacola, FL. I know a lot about both, but I am still undecided. Any suggestions? Can someone give me some fresh gouge on either? Thanx. Lt...

    College grades

No one cares about your GPA or your major. It has nothing to do with whether you get selected for a slot or not. 4.0 or 2.0, liberal arts or physics has nothing to do with whether or not you have what it takes to be a Marine. They let Pensacola worry about whether you have what it takes to be a...

    three mile help

Get a discman with some motivating music. You can't use it at OCS obviously, but it sure helps on your runs. It'll probably cut a minute or two off your run the first time.

    Marine Air contracts

Howard--what platoon are you? I'm Alpha 5th plt. Lt Williamson and yeah--you're right--the few air contracts we have, a lot of them want out of their air contracts to go ground.

    Dangerous?

Not to put you (or anyone) down, but I think the military route to aviation may just not be for you. I say that just because for anyone who considers military service in any capacity, the question "Is this dangerous?" should not even be in their mind. Totally wrong mindset. Of course it is...

    Dress Blues.

May I also add--the exchange will set you up on the DPP--deferred payment plan-- they take the amount you charge--now the TBS issue is about $2,700 for all your uniforms--and let you pay on it for 18 months interest free and tax free, obviously. I think it's a better plan myself. I'm at TBS...

    stuff

One way to look at it E5B, is that if we are not eligible for IFS because we did FIP, and all the other air contracts (all but like 3 I think) have to TAD here in Quantico to do IFS, then we will go to P'Cola first I would assume. NO WAIT! Wahoo!!!!!! We should talk to the aviation rep and find...

    Conditioning the 5k

Remember, 3500 calories = 1 pound of body fat. ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) recommends losing no more than 1-2 lbs of body weight per week. That's a 3500 - 7000 calorie deficit per week. Ex/ if you cut 350 calories per day (350 cal deficit), you'll lose 1 lb in 10 days. What we...

    former Marine hopeing for commission

Speaking of Sgt Majs, when I went to Jrs (he was probably yours too E5B), the Bn Sgt Maj Glassford, remember? CLASS 182 APPLICANTS

As I recall, the E-course is 3.5 miles and it's like 35 minutes to pass? I think?, and the stamina course is just less than 2 miles with like 20 minutes or something. Almost no one in my Co had a problem passing. Stamina crs = juniors and endurance crs = seniors. The O course is a standard...

    TBS orders

You don't really wait for TBS if you are an OCC. You remain on active duty in Quantico until your training Co. picks up. TBS-API, I've heard true stories of 5 days and stories of 9 months. You never know. Semper Gumby.

    TBS orders

Gentleman: I was commissioned 03 Aug 2002 and was given tentative orders for TBS 10 April 2002 (an 8 month wait I know). I received a call from my OSO 06 November and (last week) and was told to pack my trash--I got orders for 26 November this month! Just thought I would enlighten those who...

    Crunches?

Negative (I think). The elbows (tips) must touch the quads. If the forearms could touch the quads, it would be much easier to cheat. How much you cheat would depend on how bent your elbows were during the exercise. It is the elbows that must touch the quads. This way, it does not matter how bent...

Not to reiterate anything, but I do not know if you (Akoni) are green material if your sole goal is to get into a hornet. flight physical

I got a comprehensive flight physical before I even contracted as a PLC air. My OSO did that so that I would know before I even went to OCS whether I would be physically qualed for a pilot slot or not. I never went to MEPS. From what I gather, flight physicals are good for either 18 or 24 months...

  37. L

    HMX-1 platforms?

Phrog: School me. When you're instructing (dual), is that time considered PIC for you? I know it goes on your TT. I noticed most civilian helo jobs want like 1500-2000 TT, 1000 PIC. Sounds like if IP time counts as PIC, it could make someone real marketable if they chose to EAS, and seek...

    HMX-1 platforms?

Great gouge phrog. Thanks. I assume you end up with about 1000 hours after flight school and your first tour, right? I plan to stay in the Marine Corps as long as possible. Now B-billets-- you can IP for your B-billet? I think that would be great duty. You know anything about it? Is it hard to...

    Feet

No--do not deprive yourself of sleep to "prepare." Just do as you normally would--it's honestly not going to make any difference. Yes--you just adapt or you go home. You have 50 other candidates in your platoon all behind you "helping' you to adapt. I do not think there is any way to prepare...

    HMX-1 platforms?

Phrog: you like flying 46s? Have you looked at civilian helicopter jobs? Any comment on flying commercial helicopters? (law enforcement, EMS, etc) How would your military ratings/flight time translate to the civilian sector? Sorry I'm full of questions. Lt. Williamson, USMC

    PFT

What I meant was that the instructor judged the pullups they were trying to do as illegitimate. Each pullup needs to be perfect or they will not count them at OCS. Either they did not lock their arms out completely, they swung too much, their chin did not clear the bar, etc.

    PFT - i'm screwed

Gentleman: This forum has been entertaining. "Artsy Russian webpage," that is funny. Tessone-- how in the world do you PT 3 hours a day? Either your idea of PT is drastically different than mine or you're the warrior's warrior. Unless you're an Olympic athlete, no one needs to PT for longer...

Your shoulder blades need to hit the deck on each repetition. Your butt cannot come off the deck, and your arms cannot come off your chest. Your heels can be as close to your ass as you like, and you need to touch both elbows to your thighs on each rep. MANY people cheat on this event in my...
