    OCS 03Nov2023 SNA/SNFO Board

I was selected SNA with 45 5-7-6 and 3.5 gpa back in August board in 2019. Board met in August 13th and I heard on august 23rd. I was in OCS in Nov 3 parked by Callaghan hall getting yelled at in the cold. Most fun I ever had . Hearing loss is what ended my career in the Navy.

    OCS 03Nov2023 SNA/SNFO Board

If anyone needs any advice on OCS, let me know. I was in Class 06-20 G company back in 2019. Short story is OCS is the best fun you’ll never want to repeat again. My best advice is “don’t stress and don’t sweat it. Everything looks a lot more serious than it is, and don’t forget the Marine DI’s...

    FY20 Oct. 28, 2019 SNA/NFO Board

I don’t think any of you will be waiting 2-3 weeks. My OR said the same and I heard 10 days after. Some people heard as quick as 3 days after because they posted their news on the thread. It all depends on your NRD number. Some NRD’s get everything quicker and some take longer.

    FY20 Oct. 28, 2019 SNA/NFO Board

Good luck to all of you. I was selected SNA in August board. I heard 10 days after the board met with a possible OCS date. After your selection you will enter what they call “FINSEL purgatory” where you will be wondering when are you going to get it and you will hear stories of rare cases of...

You can request some time if you need it. If you want an earlier date, you will get it if they have it available.

    Pilot/NFO Board FY 19- 13 Aug 2019

    - You should have put SNA, man. I got SNA with lower scores than yours, 5/7/6. Talk to your OR to reapply. I have been told by a commander nobody is gonna hold grudges against you if you don’t want NFO. Long story short, if you can’t live driving back seat, then simply don’t take it.

There is no more spatial apperception. Now you just do the tracking with the stick and throttle. And yes you have to do the UAV. Be careful with those. 3 of those wrong resulted in a 6. For pilots they dont really look at that but try to be in the 7’s for the AQR AND PFAR.

Perhaps it’s based on OR preference like I said. But that was my experience: MEPS, then ASTB.

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

    - I finished MEPS before the ASTB. Some recruiters like to be sure that you are medically cleared before you take the ASTB to avoid any surprises. There is many stories here of people getting great ASTB scored just to get medically dq’d at MEPS. So I would say MEPS first, then ASTB. Alot of...

Most likely you were prepped better than me that’s why. I also had 40 minutes of sleep and that’s it before the ASTB.

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

    - True but you need to draw the compass slightly skewed so it aligns perfectly with the boxes on the real UAV portion. I got 2 wrong because of that and once I adjusted for that slight angle, I didn’t miss any and averaged 3 seconds which is long as hell, honestly. I got a stupid 6 on the FOFAR...

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

This is not completely accurate since the real UAV portion boxes will be slightly misplaced and you will get 2-3 wrong until you figure out. However, this is a very good tutorial to give you an idea on how to work it.

So, there is a trick with questions like this. For example you can do X(0.035) = 6440. When you take 0.035 to the other side of the = then you divide 6440/0.035, you will get 184,000. Email me for some links to learn these.

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

    Sorry, it’s 1/3, not 2/3. 20 minutes converted into a fraction is 1/3 because 20 minutes is 1/3 of 60 minutes since 20+20+20 = 60.
  26. P

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

1200 seconds divided by 60 is 20 minutes. 20 minutes is 2/3 of an hour. You can multiply 630 by 1/3 and get the answer of 210 nm.

What other contributing factors do you think did not get you selected because I have the same ASTB score with a 43 in OAR. If you didn’t get selected, then my hopes just went down.
  28. P

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

    - You have the same exact ASTB as I do, except +6 points more on the OAR. Apparently the aviation calculator is no longer being used according to my OR to check where that puts me.

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

What I did for the dichotic listening was whenever I had the target ear, I would remove the over-the-ear headphone from the other ear completely so I could only listen to the numbers in the target ear. I think that helped quite a bit. And then I would switch left, right.

    ASTB Scores

I went from 33 3/5/3 two months ago to 43 5/7/6 today. I had only one hour of sleep total. My OR said these are good enough scores to apply with a 3.37 gpa in Aeronautical Science. I’m also a licensed pilot with ground instructor certificate with around 200 flight hours. What do you guys think...

OCS Failed DP at meps and selected NFO

    - I don’t see the problem? My mentor is an O4 flying with VFA-25 and we call each other bro. If I offended him, my bad. I meant no harm, nor used it as a derogatory term. I don’t get why people here would make a big deal out of stressing for MEPS. - Cause pretty sure people in the ready room...

OCS Failed DP at meps and selected NFO

    - Bro if you go around telling people your time at MEPS wasn’t stressful or flight physicals aren’t stressful then you’re just straight talking outta your ass. This meant alot to me and reading about people with perfect eyesight failing DP stressed me. Good day.

OCS Failed DP at meps and selected NFO

Hahah I hope so. I hope even more you're not being sarcastic. The API doc told me the flight physicals at OCS and API are like MEPS but more detailed and more eye tests. So honestly I'm always worried at the back of my mind.

OCS Failed DP at meps and selected NFO

    - I am really sorry to hear that. I went to MEPS November 14. It was stressful as hell. I had nightmares about it 2 nights after. My first stop was the eye tests and I passed everything, thankfully. The color blindness test was easy. The Depth Perception was super hard. The other test to see how...

    - My guess is as good as yours. I only took a quick peek at it. I’m guessing one of the more technical students here can answer that. Maybe it has something to do with how things flow and which is a more direct or closest way etc.

    - There must be a reason most people who have flying hours do so bad on the joystick throttle portions.
